New Mortal Kombat X DLC trailer shows Alien and Leatherface in action

A new trailer for Mortal Kombat X released Tuesday showed off the new characters from the game’s upcoming downloadable character set in action. Announced last month, the “Kombat Pack 2” will add four new fighters to the MK X roster: gross-out kung fu master Bo Rai Cho, Leatherface from the Texas Chainsaw Massacre, the Xenomorph from the Alien series, and Triborg, a new robot character that combines the powers of the series’ three robot ninjas, Sektor, Cyrax and Smoke. The “Kombat Pack 2” also includes a set of all-new character skins called the “Apocalypse” pack, which includes “apocalyptic”-themed outfits for Takeda, D’Vorah and Erron Black.

In addition to the new content, the “Kombat Pack 2” packs in multiple sets of old DLC. If they don’t have it already, players will add Goro to their playable roster, plus the “Kold War Pack,” the Kold War Scorpion outfit, and the “Brazil Pack” outfits. For those of you keep score, the “Kombat Pack 2” will give players access to five characters and 10 extra character skins.

The new character set continues to build Netherrealm Studios’ practice of adding non-canonical characters to its games as DLC, which has become something of a tradition in the studio’s modern era. The team added God of War hero Kratos and Nightmare on Elm Street villain Freddy Kreuger to the 2011 Mortal Kombat reboot as DLC. Mortal Kombat favorite Scorpion joined the otherwise all-canonical roster of their DC Comics fighter Injustice: Gods Among Us. Most recently, the first “Kombat Pack” for Mortal Kombat X, which packaged the game’s first wave of post-release DLC characters, added Jason from the Friday the 13th films and the Predator to the mix.

Mortal Kombat X‘s “Kombat Pack 2” will be available later this year. The first “Kombat Pack” came included with some collector’s edition box sets and cost $30 on its own.

Ubisoft confirms Assassin’s Creed remakes are in the works
Basim perched on a ledge overlooking Baghdad

In a company interview with CEO Yves Guillemot posted on the Ubisoft website Thursday, the executive reveals that there are remakes of Assassin's Creed games in the works, although he doesn't specify which ones.

"Players can be excited about some remakes, which will allow us to revisit some of the games we've created in the past and modernize them," he says, implying that it could pertain to games made before Odyssey. "There are worlds in some of our older Assassin's Creed games that are still extremely rich."

Surfaced patent shows what an Xbox streaming console would’ve looked like
An Xbox Series X sits next to both Series S models.

There have been a few Xbox devices that have never come to fruition, one of which was Keystone, a prototype for an affordable game streaming device you could hook up to your TV or monitor. Thanks to a surfaced patent, we've gotten an even closer look at what it would've potentially looked like.

The patent, first spotted by Windows Central, gives us a more complete view of the device. We've previously seen the Keystone in the flesh. Microsoft Gaming head Phil Spencer is known for hiding teases and interesting collectibles on the shelf in his office. In a 2022 X (formerly Twitter) post congratulating Bethesda on Fallout's 25th anniversary, you can see a small white device on the top shelf that's actually a Keystone prototype. Xbox told Digital Trends that it was a version of the device made before it decided to "refocus our efforts on a new approach.”
