The recently confirmed next Borderlands game, described as “the big one” by Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford, will only be coming to the latest generation of consoles (via GameSpot). That’s what Take-Two Interactive president Karl Slatoff had to say about publisher 2K Games’ upcoming release in a recent company earnings call.

The game’s existence was announced when Pitchford tweeted a call for developers to join Gearbox’s team for the next Borderlands. No other particulars about the game — such as title, content, or a release window — have been revealed yet.

In the meantime, series fans with PlayStation 4 or Xbox One will be able to get Borderlands: The Handsome Collection on March 24, collecting Borderlands 2, Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel, and all of the associated downloadable content for those games into one package. That extra bit of practice in bringing Borderlands to the latest consoles will no doubt be useful for Gearbox as they prepare for the next full-fledged entry in the franchise.
