First-party Xbox game Pentiment will release on November 15

Obsidian Entertainment announced that Pentiment will release on November 15 for Xbox consoles and PC. As it’s a first-party Xbox title, the game will be available through all versions of Xbox Game Pass at release in addition to Steam.

Pentiment was first revealed at the Xbox & Bethesda showcase in June. It’ll help fill Xbox’s rather desolate slate of exclusive titles this year, given that Bethesda’s Starfield and Redfall were delayed to 2023. Pentiment also joins an incredibly crowded slate of November video game releases. God of War Ragnarok, Sonic Frontiers, and Pokemon Scarlet and Violet are all notable heavy hitters dropping within a week of this game.

Pentiment follows a man named Andreas Maler, an artist in the Bavarian Alps. The game takes place in 16th century Europe and is presented in painted manuscripts like how the earliest books were printed. Players can pick their own academic and social backgrounds as they explore Tassing, a small Bavarian town, and the nearby area of Keirsau Abbey. Andreas is caught up in a series of murders in Keirsau Abbey over a period of 25 years. Since the time period is rife with religious and political turmoil, the choices that players make have a great impact on their community’s future. Over several generations, players will be able to see the consequences of their own decisions.

Pentiment’s store page confirms that the game is optimized for Xbox Series X and that it will sport 4K visuals and run at 60 frames per second. However, the game is still playable on Xbox One, and players can use Smart Delivery to seamlessly upgrade and carry over progression to the Xbox Series X/S version.

Pentiment will be released for PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S on November 15.

Amazon is finally bringing its MMO New World to consoles this October, and that’s coming as part of a larger rework of the fantasy game called New World: Aeternum.

When New World hits consoles on October 15, it will also add crossplay, so you can group up with your friends on different platforms. That said, it won’t feature cross-progression, as the characters you make will be locked to whatever platform you made them on. The controls and UI have also been reworked to function better with a controller, and Amazon Games expects New World to keep update parity across all three platforms starting this October.

Microsoft will hold an Xbox Games Showcase and Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 Direct. this Sunday. These shows will provide a much better idea of what to expect from Xbox over the course of the next year or two. That's really needed right now, as Microsoft has struggled to keep online discussions around Xbox positive as it went multiplatform with some games, laid off thousands of developers, and outright shut down the developers of Hi-Fi Rush and Redfall. Based on leaks and my personal expectations for the showcase, there are three games you can play on Xbox Game Pass this weekend to prepare for the event.

The first is the latest first-person shooter in a long-running series by id Software that might be getting a medieval-set spinoff. After that, we have the fifth entry in a sci-fi Xbox series that still looks fantastic on Xbox Series X/S even though it came out in 2019. Finally, you can prepare for Avowed with the latest RPG from Obsidian Entertainment, a satirical sci-fi game where player choice is critical.

Xbox has had a rough year. From the divisive reactions to its multiplatform plans to layoffs and the shuttering of lauded studios like Tango Gameworks, there hasn't been much of a reason to be excited for Xbox recently. Microsoft is hoping to change that on Sunday as it will hold its annual Xbox Games Showcase to give us a glimpse at titles coming from its first-party studios and third-party partners over the course of the next year or two.

It's even holding a Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 Direct right after. If you're an Xbox fan, this is obviously an event that you need to tune into. When is the 2024 Xbox Games Showcase and Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 Direct
The 2024 Xbox Games Showcase will begin at 10 a.m. PT on Sunday, June 9. The Black Ops 6 Direct will begin immediately after that multigame showcase concludes. Although Microsoft has not committed to an exact start time for that Direct, the Xbox Games Showcase has historically lasted anywhere from an hour to an hour and a half.
