Free-to-play, massively multiplayer shooter PlanetSide 2 finally comes to PlayStation 4 with a closed beta test in January 2015. Sony Online Entertainment president John Smedley confirmed on Twitter that the previously announced beta is set to launch in either the second or the third week of January, with confirmation to come shortly after the new year kicks off.
@Tyrese_X it was approved first pass and goes up either the week of the 13th or 20th. We will know when we are back on the 5th

PlayStation 4 owners can sign up now on the game’s website. Submission simply requires an e-mail address, but the selection criteria for participation are not apparent. The beta was originally scheduled to launch by the end of 2014, so this January arrival puts it slightly behind schedule.
PlanetSide 2 is a faction-based, online shooter with massive, continent-spanning battles for up to 2,000 players doing battle both on foot and in a variety of land and air vehicles. Three factions struggle to control territory in an ongoing war. Players earn skill and equipment upgrades in a complex system of character and class advancement.
The game is free-to-play, with in-app purchases available for cosmetic upgrades and experience boosts. Originally released for Windows in 2012, it earned Digital Trends’ award for Best PC Exclusive that year.
