Assassin’s Creed Rogue, the assassin-turned-Templar chapter of the hit franchise that came out for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 alongside Assassin’s Creed Unity in fall 2014, comes to Windows on March 10. Port developer Ubisoft Kiev has partnered with Tobii Tech to integrate eye-tracking using the SteelSeries Sentry. Looking to the left or right of the screen prompts the camera to pan accordingly.
Rogue takes the nautical gameplay that fans loved in Assassin’s Creed IV and sends it into the icy northern Atlantic during the 1750s. You play as Shay Patrick Cormac, a former assassin who joined the Templars to hunt down the brotherhood that betrayed him. Chronologically, the game serves as a prequel for Assassin’s Creed III, and some familiar faces make appearances.
Digital Trends contributor Sarah LeBoeuf enjoyed Rogue as a solid, if somewhat unadventurous, recap of some of the series’ best features. Whether it’s a consolation prize for gamers that hadn’t upgraded to the newer hardware or a victory lap for the generation of consoles that birthed the blockbuster franchise, Assassin’s Creed Rogue is as good a distillation of the series as fans who just want more could ask for.
Pre-ordering Assassin’s Creed Rogue on uPlay, either standard or deluxe, also gets you a complimentary copy of one of six previous Assassin’s Creed games, if you want to look back and pick up any entries you may have missed.
