A Halo Infinite player has glitched into the game’s campaign co-op

Through a complicated series of steps, a Halo Infinite player has managed to glitch a broken version of campaign co-op.

When Halo Infinite launched on December 8, it infamously didn’t include two staple features of the franchise: Co-op campaign and Forge mode. However, by following some very complex instructions, players can at least see what co-op campaign in the game might look like. According to nobleactual4 on Twitter, players can launch the game offline and use two controllers to launch a co-op campaign session.

While it would be nice if players could abuse this exploit to actually play through Halo Infinite‘s campaign with each other, the co-op session launched this way is quite broken. The second player in the session has no HUD and multiple elements of the game’s open world, including its forward operating bases and the story missions players can start, are unusable and unplayable.

All the same, this glitch poses the question of why campaign co-op isn’t in Halo Infinite just yet. The feature is planned to release in the game alongside one of its seasonal updates, meaning that players will likely be able to play the game’s campaign together sometime in the middle of 2022. Seasons in Halo Infinite are extremely long, with the game’s first season lasting until May 2, 2022.

Although campaign co-op and forge mode are far in the horizon for Halo Infinite, developer 343 Industries has been hard at work adjusting the game according to fan feedback. Halo Infinite‘s most recent patch added individual playlists for game modes like slayer and free for all and adjusted some of the game’s challenges.

Lots of multiplayer games based on famous film franchises have emerged recently. There are Illfonic titles like Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed, Cold Iron Studios' Aliens: Fireteam Elite, and more. Now, the satiric sci-fi franchise Starship Troopers is getting that treatment with Starship Troopers: Extermination.
Developed byOffworld Industries, which gave us Squad and Beyond the Wire, Starship Troopers: Extermination is a co-op shooter where four squads of four fight hordes of Arachnids across five areas on the planet of Valaka to gather resources to build and defend their home base. There will be Assault, Support, and Defense character classes, meaty progression systems, many base-building options, and a ping system so players can communicate as they build and fight.
Released in 1997, Paul Verhoeven's sci-fi film Starship Troopers cemented itself as a cult classic thanks to how it uses its pulpy setting to critique fascism, patriotism, xenophobia, and more. The film's cult popularity has enabled the film to become a franchise, receiving multiple sequels and video games, with real-time strategy game Starship Troopers: Terran Command just released in June.

Starship Troopers: Extermination's mix of first-person shooter and base-building elements is certainly intriguing, but it still remains to be seen if this multiplayer game will carry the same satirical bite about warfare that the film had or if it just glorifies the violence for the sake of gameplay. That's an issue these licensed multiplayer games consistently must grapple with, and few have managed to overcome it.

Halo Infinite’s Winter Update is the boost the shooter needed

It’d be an understatement to say it’s been a rough run for Halo Infinite. The latest in the classically Xbox-centric first-person shooter series, Infinite was released in November 2021 to a steady stream of positive reviews, though its popularity quickly died off due to an unintuitive progression system, a mountain of bugs, and a disappointing lack of fresh content delivered on anything resembling a consistent release schedule.

Instead of becoming one of the quintessential multiplayer games of 2022, Infinite went out silently with no more than a whimper as its concurrent player count fell below that of its predecessor, Halo: The Master Chief Collection. Longtime Halo had fans feared this would be the case, given how Halo Infinite developer 343 Industries handled its predecessor -- the largely middling Halo 5.
