PlayStation’s Spider-Man cameos in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse trailer

In a blink-and-you-miss-it cameo, Insomniac Games’ version of Spider-Man appears in the new trailer for Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse.

In the trailer, we get a look at a hub where dozens of different versions of Spider-Man are hanging out and working together. This is where you can see what appears to be Insomniac’s version of Spider-Man, as he is walking and talking to another Spider-Man in a black-and-red suit. The suit design is slightly different, with red patches on its legs, but otherwise, this character looks just like the Spider-Man from 2018’s PS4 game. Could this be our first look at new versions of Peter and Miles’ suits in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, or is Sony Pictures Animations just taking some creative liberties? Only time will tell.

It’s unknown if Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 will reference or set up this appearance. It’s unlikely that Insomniac’s Spider-Man will have much bearing on the narrative of Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse — chances are that this is little more than a cameo. Lots of Spider-Men will appear in this film, and a bunch of them are seen chasing Miles at the end. Twitter, in particular, seems pretty happy that the Spider-Man Unlimited version of Peter Parker is seen chasing Miles. Regardless, it’s cool to see one of the most recent video game interpretations of the character represented in a Spider-Man film.

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse will hit theaters on June 2, 2023. Meanwhile, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is slated to be released for PlayStation 5 sometime next year. A page for the game appeared on the PlayStation Store earlier this week, but was taken down.

Arthur Morgan walks into a burning house in Red Dead Redemption 2.

If you somehow haven't played the 2018 open-world classic Red Dead Redemption 2 yet and you have a PlayStation Plus subscription, we have good news. PlayStation announced in a blog post Wednesday that the game will be available for free for the Plus program's Extra and Premium tiers.

Subscribers can play this massive hit, along with 12 other games, starting on May 21.  Users will also get access to Red Dead Online, the game's multiplayer experience that allows players to create their own character and mess around inside the world as they see fit -- from forming a group of outlaws to rob people on the road to hunting animals.

3 PlayStation Plus games you need to play this weekend (May 10-12)
Miles Morales in Spider-Man outfit fending off crime.

The weekend is here, so you probably want to sit back and relax by playing some video games. If you're subscribed to PlayStation Plus Premium or Extra on PS4 or PS5, then there are tons of fantastic titles to choose from in the subscription service's vast game catalog. It's a lot to sift through, so I've handpicked three titles I think you should check out if you haven't played them already.

One is a superhero game that launched alongside the PS5 and can be beaten within a weekend. The next is an eerie indie Metroidvania that just got added to PS Plus Extra when it launched on May 9. Finally, there's a sequel to a fantastic roguelike (not Hades 2) where you play as a new person in the same family every time you die.

Helldivers 2 PC woes prove that PlayStation needs an online overhaul
The PlayStation Store on the Sony InZone M9.

It's been a rough few days for Sony. After a plan to implement mandatory PlayStation Network accounts for Helldivers 2 players on PC went haywire, one would imagine that the company is having a lot of talks behind closed doors right now. If there's one thing I hope Sony takes away from everything, it's that PlayStation's online services need a 2.0 revamp.

It all kicked off when Sony announced that all Helldivers 2 players on PC would be required to have a PSN account to play and would no longer be optional. The backlash was instant, but not for unfounded reasons. Many players expressed concern about living in a country where they couldn't even create a PSN account, leading to the eventual backpedaling of the decision.
