Well that didn’t take long. The Xbox One has been on the market for less than a week, and the adult entertainment company SugarDVD already found a way to bring adult content to the system with integrated Kinect gesture controls. But not in a weird way. Meanwhile, Sony users have discovered how to take advantage of the PlayStation 4’s camera and share functions in unusual, and possibly criminal ways.

The SugarDVD app works through the Xbox One’s browser, and it requires a monthly subscription. Unsurprisingly, it is not endorsed by Microsoft. Users need to log in through the browser “to prevent unauthorized access due to privacy and app marketplace restrictions,” then they can sort through categories in what Sugar DVD claims is a manner similar to Netflix. The service also utilizes “the same content distribution network as streaming giants Netflix and Hulu.”

SugarDVD is quick to point out that although it needs a browser log-in, it is an actual app. The difference is that video streaming through a browser can be grainy and pixilated due to the browser itself expanding the image to fit on the screen. The image quality doesn’t change, it just gets bigger and loses detail as a result. Apps are more suited to adapt to different screen sizes. SugarDVD has developed apps that work with the PlayStation 3, the PS4, and the Xbox 360, but the company has chosen the Xbox One as its favorite.

“The PS4 is great, but if we’re purely talking adult content … the Xbox One is superior,” Rebecca Bolen, a rep for SugarDVD, claimed.

Using the Xbox One’s gesture controls through the Kinect, subscribers are able to get to the action faster by physically grabbing the pages and categories they want to load, the same basic gestures that you can use on the console’s dashboard. There are no plans to further integrate the Kinect’s camera and gesture capabilities. Yet.

The adult provider also claims its app will work with the Xbox One’s “snap” feature, meaning you can be playing a game like Forza 5 while watching the newest “College” or “All-Girl” videos, like a boss. The press release goes into a bit more graphic detail, but that’s the gist of it.

But worry not, PS4 owner looking to spice up their gaming sessions. There is support for Sony’s new console as well.

“Simply put, the Xbox One is a gateway for porn of the future,” SugarDVD CEO Jax Smith said, no doubt to the delight of Microsoft execs. “The PS4 is pretty, but Xbox One allows for more seamless integration and a more interactive experience.”

cobra-and-his-wifeIt also turns out that Sony users have their own adult possibilities thanks to Sony’s “Playroom” app, the system’s live streaming options, and a plethora of people that really need to better understand boundaries. In what threatens to become a subgenre, some PS4 owners have taken to Twitch in order to broadcast some … lets just agree to call it “bizarre” behavior. Some of it is weird, some is funny, some may be a felony.

One example caught on NeoGAF and recounted by Kotaku featured a Washington state couple streaming themselves using Sony’s augmented reality Playroom. Unlike streaming games, which uses the camera to create a small thumbnail image, Playroom records and broadcasts the entire room and displays it full screen. The couple in question took advantage of that, and proceeded to get drunk to the point of unconsciousness. And then they got naked, or at least the woman did. After she passed out. Hence the possible felony note above.

After the woman apparently passed out from alcohol consumption, her male companion removed her shirt, exposing her breasts. Following a short transmission blackout, the show resumed with the unconscious woman completely naked. Twitch immediately killed the channel and banned the users, but there are other stories of Playroom being used in this fashion. One involved a guy in a horse head “motorboating” a lady. That same channel introduced shotguns into the mix later, although nothing beyond just “weird” seemed to occur. This is just the beginning.

The next-gen systems are here, and like any new piece of technology, users are finding ways to take them in new directions. The rise of adult content on these platforms was inevitable, as was the introduction of people being weird on camera. Both systems are perfectly suited – at least from a technological standpoint – to do just that.

Horizon Forbidden West is the next PlayStation game to make its way to PC
Aloy swimming underwater.

PlayStation and Nixxes Software have confirmed that Horizon Forbidden West: Complete Edition will be the next PlayStation 5 first-party game to come to PC. While it's not releasing on PC until sometime next year, Horizon Forbidden West: Complete Edition will drop on PS5 first on October 6.

Over the past few years, several previously PlayStation console-exclusive titles have made their way to PC. Games that made the transition include God of War, Marvel's Spider-Man Remastered and Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection, Sackboy: A Big Adventure, Returnal, The Last of Us Part 1, and Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart. Horizon Forbidden West was first released for PS4 and PS5 in February 2022, and will make the jump to PC about two years after launch in early 2024. We don't know what technical improvements this PC port will have yet, but we do know that it'll be available across Steam and the Epic Games Store for $60.
Nixxes Software and Sony also confirmed that it would be the Complete Edition of the game that comes to PC. Announced alongside this port, Horizon Forbidden West: Complete Edition comes with the base game, April 2023's Burning Shores DLC, a digital soundtrack and art book, a special pose and face paint for photo mode, and additional in-game items like outfits, bows, slings, and resources. It launches on October 6, so that'll be the best time to jump in for PS5 players who have been waiting to get Horizon Forbidden West.
