Mass Effect 2, Magicka 2 free for PlayStation Plus members in November

Sony announced that it will give away free digital copies of BioWare’s sci-fi epic Mass Effect 2 for PlayStation Plus members in November, while PS4 owners can expect to play Magicka 2 and the second season of Telltale Games’ The Walking Dead free of charge.

PS Vita owners, meanwhile, can expect to receive the early-era standout Invizimals as part of next month’s PlayStation Plus lineup.

Starting next week, PlayStation 4 owners enrolled in Sony’s PlayStation Plus subscription service can download Paradox Interactive’s Magicka 2 for free. Originally released in May of this year, Magicka 2 features co-op gameplay for up to four players, along with a dynamic spellcasting system. Currently, the PlayStation 4 hosts the only home console version of Magicka 2; the series was previously exclusive to PC platforms.

Also on tap for PlayStation 4 owners this month is The Walking Dead: Season Two from Telltale Games. Continuing the dramatic zombie apocalypse storyline from 2012’s Telltale Games Presents: The Walking Dead, Season Two ups the stakes with a new cast of characters who meet up with a handful of survivors from the first game. The Walking Dead: Season Two‘s story is split across five episodes, all of which will be free for PlayStation Plus subscribers in November.

Over on the PlayStation 3, Sony serves up free copies of BioWare’s Mass Effect 2. Featuring in-depth combat and interstellar exploration segments, Mass Effect 2 ranks as one of the most popular action-RPGs of the last console generation, and promises players dozens of hours of gameplay.

The PS3 edition of Ubisoft’s Beyond Good & Evil also arrives on PlayStation Plus next month, upgrading Michel Ancel’s critically acclaimed 2003 adventure with a higher-resolution presentation and improved character textures, along with unlockable trophies and leaderboards.

Invizimals headlines next month’s free PS Vita lineup, offering a unique experience in which players battle and capture virtual creatures by using the portable console’s camera. Also up for grabs for PS Vita owners next month is the action-RPG Dragon Fin Soup, which will additionally launch as a free download for the PlayStation 4 and PS3.

All featured games will be available for download for PlayStation Plus subscribers starting on November 3rd.

I would buy a PlayStation Portal 2 if it had this one feature
A Pulse Elite, DualSense, and PlayStation Portal sit on a table.

I've had a bit of a love-hate relationship with the PlayStation Portal since it launched. Initially, I was disappointed by Sony's cloud streaming device. I was impressed with its screen and appreciated its DualSense integration, but its slimmeddown features made it feel like a cheap version of a good idea. I've since learned to find a use case for my PlayStation Portal that turned it into an integral part of my gaming setup. It's very imperfect, but that doesn't mean it's not useful.

Ever since its launch, I've been hoping for a refreshed follow-up, whether that be a Pro model or a true PlayStation Portal 2. It may be way too early to start discussing that considering that the Portal just launched in November 2023, but the promising device has enough glaring flaws that I'd welcome a fast-tracked successor. If Sony were to make a PlayStation Portal 2, though, there's one feature that's nonnegotiable: Bluetooth.

Grand Theft Auto 5 and 11 more games are leaving PS Plus in June
Trevor, Michael, and Franklin are all holding guns in GTA 5 promotional art.

PlayStation Plus users will be losing out on 12 games in June, and one of them is a must-play if you're a fan of open-world action adventures from 2013.

Grand Theft Auto 5 is widely considered to be one of the most iconic games all time, and it's definitely the best Grand Theft Auto game. It's also easy to play on nearly any platform (minus Nintendo Switch, of course). It even received a next-gen upgrade for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S in 2022. That said, if you have a PlayStation Plus subscription and wanted to play it at some point -- or just wanted to get a session or two in before Grand Theft Auto 6 -- you'll have until June 12 to do so.

3 new PS Plus games to play this Memorial Day weekend (May 24-27)
Arthur Morgan in Red Dead Redemption 2.

Memorial Day is coming up, so you're probably wondering what games you should play on your PlayStation 4 or PlayStation 5 over the holiday weekend. Lucky for you, a new batch of games were added to the PlayStation Plus Premium and Extra game catalog earlier this week, and it brought plenty of games well worth your time. Three in particular stand out to me; download them today and try them out over the next few days.

The first is a Western from Rockstar Games that needs little introduction and is a must-play if you haven't experienced it yet. The next is an open-world game that kick-started a new series for Ubisoft and turns 10 next week. Finally, a retro PlayStation 1 game that just came to PlayStation Plus Premium offers up a good time if you enjoy sports or racing games.
