Mortal Kombat X‘s roster continues to grow, as publisher Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment announced that Quan Chi, hailing from the Netherrealm, will be a playable character.
Quan Chi first debuted in the 1996 animated series Mortal Kombat: Defenders of the Realm as a villainous sorcerer, eventually making his in-game debut in 1997’s Mortal Kombat Mythologies: Sub-Zero. As with all Mortal Kombat X characters, Quan Chi will have three variations: Sorcerer allows Quan Chi to use spells while fighting, Warlock allows Quan Chi to open portals, causing damage to opponents, and Summoner lets Quan Chi summon a bat-like creature that can assist him in combat.

According to executive producer Shaun Himmerick, Quan Chi will play “a major part in the [Mortal Kombat X] story.” How that will unfold, however, Himmerick didn’t say. Quan Chi joines series regulars Raiden, Sub-Zero, and Scorpion. New entrants include Cassie Cage, D’Vorah, Ferra/Torr and Kotal Khan. Goro was announced as an exclusive to those who pre-order the game.
Mortal Kombat X will be released on April 14, 2015 for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC.
