Rockstar plans big updates for Red Dead Online, GTA Online

Rockstar Games is going to update both Red Dead Online and Grand Theft Auto Online in the coming weeks.

“With both games playing home to more players than ever before in recent months, we know the community has been awaiting news of any updates for GTA Online and Red Dead Online, and we are happy to share that both games will receive exciting new updates in the weeks ahead.” the company said in a blog post.

The Red Dead Online update is going to be “massive,” with a new Frontier Pursuit mode focusing on naturalism, and a new role as well. There’s also going to be an outlaw pass and “tons of community-requested features and fixes, and much more to play and discover in the months to come.” That update arrives on July 28.

The GTA Online update will come later in the summer and include “a fun mix of diverse new content from the game’s massive array of experiences to enjoy.”

The company also thanked players for giving feedback on the games, and said it added number of features based on those suggestions. They include adding musical instruments in Red Dead Online, as well as a new ability to run businesses through the Master Control Terminal in GTA Online. Rockstar also said it was making sure that the games remain fair and safe for all players.

“We are also committed to ensuring that our games are fun for everyone and as safe as possible from modders, cheaters, hackers, and those who seek to harass other players. So far this year, we have taken action on hundreds of thousands of players caught violating community rules across both games. Please help us keep our communities safe and fun by reporting any sort of cheating either directly in-game or via our dedicated web reporting tools for both Red Dead Online and GTA Online,” the company said.

Red Dead Online is updated fairly often with bonuses like extra in-game money or discounts on weapons or horses, but the last big update for the game happened in December of last year. Some players were so upset about the lack of new stuff that they dressed up as clowns in the game to protest.

Rockstar Games’ co-founder just formed an ‘absurd’ new studio
A man drives away in a boat with stolen money in Grand Theft Auto 5 art.

Dan Houser, a co-founder of Rockstar Games and one of the people behind the creation of series like Grand Theft Auto and Red Dead Redemption, has unveiled his new studio, Absurd Ventures.

Dan Houser was a stalwart figure at Rockstar Games since its founding and had a hand in the creative aspects of pretty much every game in the Grand Theft Auto and Red Dead Redemption series, along with other titles like Bully and Max Payne 3. Following an "extended break" following the release of Red Dead Redemption 2, as well as some controversy surrounding some reported issues with the game's creative development, Rockstar Games' parent company Take-Two Interactive announced that Houser had left the company in early 2020. He's had a relatively low-profile since then outside of serving on the board of a blockchain company, but now looks to be fully invested in Absurd Ventures, a company he technically founded in 2021.
Absurd Ventures is finally being revealed more publicly now, and Houser did so with an intentionally absurd announcement trailer and website with the tagline "Storytelling, Philanthropy, Ultraviolence." According to a tweet by Geoff Keighley, the actual main goal of Absurd Ventures is "building narrative worlds, creating characters, and writing stories for a diverse variety of genres, without regard to medium, to be produced for live-action and animation, video games and other interactive content, books, graphic novels, and scripted podcasts."
Absurd Ventures
It seems like Houser wants to make a creative think tank that can craft ideas that are then realized in a variety of creative mediums. It doesn't seem quite like any other game developer or movie studio out there, so it will be very interesting to see what the minds at Absurd Ventures are eventually able to come up with.

The best GTA characters of all-time
The protagonists of GTA V pose for the camera.

Ever since the GTA franchise became what it is today with Grand Theft Auto 3, Rockstar has packed their worlds full of colorful and rich characters. While we've only been able to control male characters up until now (though that is set to change if the GTA 6 rumors are true), they have all had distinct and interesting personalities and stories. That said, sometimes it's the side characters that can steal the show too. Looking back at the entire series, we've come up with our picks for the best GTA characters of all time.
Carl 'CJ' Johnson -- GTA: San Andreas

Good old Carl Johnson, better known as CJ, is way more than just a meme. San Andreas was the second game in the series to really focus on character in a major way, and the team nailed it with their lead. Not only was the entire cast filled with bonafide actors, but CJ's personal story as a gang member whose mother is murdered was far more nuanced and emotional than the media would lead you to believe. The real draw was the relationship CJ had with the main antagonist Officer Tenpenny (who may or may not be mentioned later on). This game set the standard for how Rockstar would reveal more about the characters and world through casual conversation throughout the story.
Tommy Vercetti -- GTA: Vice City

How to get the Eclipse 50-car garage in GTA Online
GTA Online two cars driving.

For years, players have been limited in how many cars they were able to store and showcase in their garages in GTA Online. After dozens of updates introduced a host of new properties, vehicles, weapons, and other features, Rockstar has finally given the players a larger garage to show off their collection. This new garage, the Eclipse Blvd 50-car garage, is a massive, five-story-tall garage that is, as you can guess, located on the pristine Eclipse Blvd. However, just having the cash and knowing where this swanky garage is isn't quite enough to actually purchase it. GTA Online has a host of ways to buy properties and items, so here's how you can become the proud owner of the Eclipse Blvd 50-car garage.
How to buy the Eclipse Blvd 50-car garage

Before getting into the actual process of purchasing the Eclipse Blvd 50-car garage, there's good news and bad news. The good news is that there are no requirements in terms of progression, level, or anything else of that sort that you need to meet before you have the option to buy it. The bad news, which is the case with all properties in GTA Online is that it is expensive. In this case, you will need to make sure you have a healthy bank account with at least $2,740,000 ready to drop. Once you've got the cash, here's how to buy your new garage.
