'Resident Evil 7' is now out, and its first DLC isn't far behind

Resident Evil 7 biohazard TAPE-4 "Biohazard" - Launch Trailer
Resident Evil 7: Biohazard is out Tuesday, January 24 on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC, giving survival-horror fans what they’ve been wanting for more than a decade, and Capcom is wasting no time supporting the game with post-release content. Next week, the game’s first DLC releases, and it’s available first to PlayStation 4.

Available on January 31 for $10, the Banned Footage Vol. 1 pack adds two new pieces of “banned footage” for players to experience. The first of these, “Bedroom,” appears to be the Resident Evil 7 take on the escape room craze, and tasks you with breaking out of a bedroom without the terrifying Marguerite Baker knowing.

The second piece of content is something of a “horde” mode, dubbed “Nightmare,” and has you fighting against waves of enemies through the night.

A third mode, “Ethan Must Die,” is also included in the pack, and is completely separate from both the main story as well as the other tapes. Unlike the rest of Resident Evil 7, it doesn’t support PlayStation VR.

On February 14, PlayStation 4 players can purchase the second DLC pack, Banned Footage Vol. 2, for $15. Like the first pack, it includes two pieces of additional content — “21” and “Daughters” — which both focus on the Baker family. A “comical” bonus mode, “Jack’s 55th Birthday,” has you feeding the title character as much food as possible within the time limit, and doesn’t support VR. Perhaps that’s for the best.

Banned Footage Vol. 1 will release significantly later on other platforms. It comes to Xbox One and PC on February 21, as will Banned Footage Vol. 2. Capcom promises information on additional DLC packs in the future.

Resident Evil 7 looks like the return to form that the series so desperately needed. In our review, we said the game “updates a classic formula in a way that works beautifully throughout.”

Resident Evil 4 Charms: all Charm effects and where to find them
Leon collecting a teddy bear charm.

Everyone loved the attaché case from the original game and was very excited to see that it would return in the Resident Evil 4 remake. This case brings back the delicate balance of managing your inventory space between healing items, ammo, weapons, and other items that you want to bring with you. What's new are the little keychains you can attach to your case called Charms. These are more than minor cosmetic flair, though, as each Charm has a unique buff that can help turn the tides in your favor. However, being brand new, even veterans of the survival horror classic won't know how to get or use them immediately. Leon needs every advantage he can get in Resident Evil 4 remake, so help him out by checking out all the Charm effects and where to find them.
How to get Charms

Since Charms are a new addition in the remake of Resident Evil 4, the way to get them is also somewhat new. Those who played the original might recall a small shooting range Leon could mess around in. In the remake, this mini-game has been expanded quite a bit. There are now multiple shooting ranges and within them multiple challenges. The first one you can encounter is when you find the Merchant in Chapter 3 after going through the Quarry. Whichever shooting range you pick, enter the ornate elevator to be transported to the range.

Resident Evil 4: All Yellow Herb locations
Yellow herb in Resident Evil 4.

Despite being sent all the way to Europe to rescue the president's daughter, Leon arrives vastly underpowered for the job presented to him in the Resident Evil 4 remake. Not only was he sent in alone, but with just a single handgun (with 10 bullets) and a knife. If you want any hope of completing this mission, you will need to get every advantage you can. Aside from expanding and upgrading your arsenal, collecting as many of the game's Yellow Herbs will be your top priority. Of the three types of Herbs -- Green, Red, and Yellow -- these are the rarest of them all. In total, you can only grab 17 of them in a single playthrough. You will want as many of them as possible to give Leon a much-needed buff, so here's what Yellow Herbs do and where you can collect them all in the Resident Evil 4 remake.
What Yellow Herbs do

Each of the three Herb types in Resident Evil 4 serves a different function. Green Herbs are for healing, Red Herbs enhance the effect of whatever Herb they're combined with, and Yellow Herbs actually increase Leon's maximum health. That makes them by far the most valuable of the three since, with enough of them, you can essentially double the amount of damage you can take once you max out his health.

Is Resident Evil 4’s Leon S. Kennedy Italian? An investigation
resident Evil 4's Leon S Kennedy has a moustache,

Whenever a new Resident Evil game comes out -- remake or otherwise -- I always like to go down a lore rabbit hole. The Resident Evil series has a wildly vast narrative that isn’t just contained in its main installments. Obscure spinoffs, CGI movies, bonus features bundled with games … there's so much rich history to dig into, and die-hard series fans have thoroughly cataloged every piece of it through exhaustively detailed fan wikis.

After I finished Capcom’s excellent Resident Evil 4 remake, I was curious to build out my knowledge of its hero, the iconic Leon S. Kennedy. I’d learned more about his backstory than I’d ever known, including how he was blackmailed into becoming a government agent in Wii spinoff Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles. While there were a lot of fascinating surprises to be found, the very first line of Leon’s fan-maintained Resident Evil wiki page threw me for a loop.
