'Shadow of War' trailer charges you with dominating the open world

Shadow of War: "Dominate the Open World" Official Trailer
Shadow of War won’t just expand upon the nemesis system and combat seen in Shadow of Mordor, it will take players to different parts of Mordor they have never seen before. From sprawling cities to swamplands and industrialized Orc strongholds, the game’s protagonist Talion and his orcish allies will have a number of new environments to explore and battle across.

“From Seregost to Gorgoroth, we will turn all of Middle-earth against Sauron,” reads the description from Monolith Productions’ latest trailer for the game. It promises that “Nothing will be forgotten,” as players traverse a varied and expanded landscape. While Mordor has yet to turn into the wasteland seen in the Lord of the Rings trilogy, all is not well in the once fertile land.

In this trailer, we see some of the lush green that was once commonplace, but we are also treated to beautiful shots of snowy landscapes, smog-covered Orc strongholds, burning Gondorian cities, and moonlit ancient structures as players explore the foundations of the world. In typical trailer fashion, though, this one also showcases some exciting action, with a number of big set pieces and combat sequences.

A wider variety of environments will certainly be welcomed by fans of the original game. While it was an impressive title at the time, its playable locations weren’t particularly varied. Monolith seems to have gone out of its way to change that with this game, creating a wide range of locations, many of which are showcased in this new trailer.

With those environments as a backdrop, the cities, castles, and strongholds of the world’s chieftains and servants of Sauron look even more impressive, giving a new feeling of grandeur to the world.

Shadow of War will release on Xbox One, PS4, PS4 Pro and Windows 10 PCs on August 22, with a Project Scorpio release coming a little later.

First Star Wars Jedi: Survivor trailer features dual-lightsaber combat, open-world teases
Cal Kestis with BD-1 droid on his shoulder.

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is launching on March 17, 2023, for Xbox Series X, PlayStation 5, and PC. The action-adventure game received an impressive trailer during The Game Awards that showed off several new features and teased some potential open-world aspects.
Survivor takes place five years after 2019’s Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, continuing the adventures of Cal Kestis and his droid pal BD-1. Cal is no longer a young Padawan and is now a full-blown Jedi. The much larger scope of the game seems to reflect that change.
Star Wars Jedi: Survivor - Official Reveal Trailer
Combat is notably evolved in the trailer, as Cal can now freely use a dual-lightsaber stance in battle. Later, we see him enter “cross guard” stance as he takes down droids with heavy, two-handed slashes. EA tells Digital Trends that the goal of the sequel is to give players more agency when it comes to their playstyle.
Traversal plays a large role in the clip too. In addition to swinging around via grappling points, Cal is seen mounted on animals. He’s shown riding the back of a four-legged creature and using a winged one like The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild’s glider. The clip seems to imply that the game’s planets might be more open-ended than Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order’s, as one shot shows Cal peering out over a gigantic vista. EA notes that the sequel is still largely a Metroidvania-inspired title where Cal gets new abilities over time.
Cal has a new human companion this time named Bode Akuna. In one clip, we see Bode flipping over Cal’s back to attack an enemy with a combo move.
Star Wars Jedi: Survivor was built with current-generation consoles in mind, with ray tracing being a major focus. It appears to be a graphically impressive showcase that features more dynamic lighting and flashy lightsaber effects. The adventure won’t launch on PS4 or Xbox One, but it’ll be available for PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC on March 17, 2023.

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic remake: release date speculation, trailers, gameplay, and more
A Sith lord in the Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic Remake trailer.

Before Disney bought the Star Wars IP and cut nearly everything that wasn't the main film series out of the canon, there were tons of expanded Star Wars universe games, books, and shows that were technically all canon. Some games obviously attempted to retell the stories from the films, while others tried to fill in gaps between them. When BioWare got the chance to make a Star Wars game, they decided to set it where they had the most creative freedom possible: the distant past.

Knights of the Old Republic was originally released on PC and Xbox in 2003. Taking the experience BioWare had for writing deep, complex, and layered RPG stories and mixing it with the setting of the Star Wars universe, this original tale of hunting down Darth Revan became an instant classic. Even nearly two decades later, many consider it to be one of the best Star Wars stories ever told, films included. However, two decades will make even the best game show its age, which was why rumors about a Knights of the Old Republic remake were so exciting. Thankfully, those rumors turned out to be true. We only have a short teaser and some articles for information so far, but here's everything we know about the Knights of the Old Republic remake.
