Sony State of Play: Ratchet & Clank and surprise Among Us console release

Sony’s April State of Play showed off 15 minutes of Ratchet & Clank Rift Apart gameplay, giving a close look at the new release. As an added surprise, the stream revealed that a PlayStation version of Among Us is coming this year.

The bulk of the stream was centered around Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, which launches on June 11. The stream comes just a few days after Sony shared new details on the game, including the identity of its mysterious new Lombax.

State of Play | April 29, 2021

A bulk of the presentation centered around the game’s PS5 specific features. The Dualsense’s adaptive triggers will play a large role in the game, with different guns firing based on how far down a trigger is pressed. For example, the burst pistol will fire a single shot when a trigger is pressed halfway or a burst shot when pressed fully down. Similarly, the Enforcer shotgun either shoots one or two barrels depending on how far the trigger is pressed down.

One particularly impressive detail is that the game can transport players into an entirely new location with barely any loading time thanks to the PS5’s SSD. The gameplay showed a boss fight where Ratchet is instantly sent to an entirely new location mid-battle without any noticeable load.

The stream also featured news on two indie games. Among Us is finally coming to PS4 and PS5 later this year. The console version is getting a new costume based on Ratchet & Clank to celebrate the release. The PlayStation version does not have an exact release date.

The upcoming Subnautica Below Zero made a quick appearance too. The underwater survival game is getting Dualsense support and 4K graphics. Additionally, players who own the first game on PS4 can upgrade to the PS5 version for free.

Square Enix brings two surprising RPGs to Sony State of Play
A character in Valkyrie Elysium points.

Square Enix revealed two new titles, The DioField Chronicle and Valkyrie Elysium, to close out the Sony State of Play event on Wednesday. Both games will be released sometime in 2022.

The DioField Chronicle is a tactical RPG that is very reminiscent of fan-favorite Final Fantasy Tactics. However, The DioField Chronicle boasts more modern 3D graphics as opposed to Final Fantasy Tactics' 16-bit style. The trailer showed off some gameplay, as well as some story elements. One interesting takeaway from the trailer is that the game does not have a grid-based movement system, but something more akin to the XCOM series.

How to watch PlayStation’s March State of Play
Ghostwire Tokyo Tango gameworks E3 2019 Bethesda The Evil Within

Just a month after its last showcase, Sony already has another State of Play on the way. The snappy showcases typically provide looks into what the company has lined up for the next few months, usually including a good number of game announcements or release date reveals.

Based on Sony's description of today's State of Play showcase, we can expect more of the same. Here's how you can watch today's State of Play, when it airs, and what you can expect.
When is the March State of Play?
Sony isn't giving the rumor mill much time to spin with its latest State of Play. The show is set to air today at 2 p.m. PT (5 p.m. ET). While it's later in the day for those on the east coast, this timeslot isn't anything new for Sony's State of Play showcases. Today's State of Play will last a quick 20 minutes.
How can you watch the March State of Play?
Like all other PlayStation State of Play showcases, today's will air on PlayStation's YouTube and Twitch channels at the same time. However, one tends to be ahead of the other, so be sure to check both if you want to see the announcements as fast as possible.
What will be shown at the March State of Play?
Today's State of Play is going to focus on PlayStation's Japanese publishers, meaning we could easily see Capcom's next-gen Resident Evil ports or even some footage of a Resident Evil 4 remake. We'll also get some updates on games from other developers around the world too, so it's extremely likely that Ghostwire: Tokyo will be shown at some point, especially with its release date coming up. As for a non-game announcement, Sony could also use this State of Play to reveal Spartacus, its rumored Game Pass competitor.

Among Us roles guide: How to play as the Shapeshifter, Engineer, Guardian Angel, and Scientist
Among Us Crewmates presenting the Cosmicube update.

The social deduction game that took the internet by storm isn't out of surprises just yet. We already knew that Among Us developer InnerSloth at one time had plans to make a sequel to their game. Once it became the phenomenon that it did, their plans changed to continue supporting the simple yet addicting original. That extra support has finally resulted in the biggest update to the game yet, including new achievements, costumes to purchase in a new store, an XP system, and perhaps the most substantial change, the introduction of four new roles players can take.

These roles, the Shapeshifter, Engineer, Guardian Angel, and Scientist, spice up the now-familiar routine of crewmates and imposters attempting to deceive or expose the others. That will still be the main focus of the game; however, these roles will add a new layer of mechanics for both sides that promises to make matches even more dynamic and unpredictable. Whether you're a master of deduction and subterfuge, or interested in jumping into this hit social deduction game for the first time, you'll need to understand how these roles work. Hit the emergency meeting button because we've got all the info on these new Among Us roles right here.
