Sony Offers European PSPGo Owners 10 Free Games

Sony has begun a new promotion to win European gamers over to the PSPGo. Users that register their devices online, or who have registered after April 1, will be able to download 10 free games. So far the promotion is only available for the European market, but it may head stateside if the sales show a resultant bump.

GameIndustry.biz has confirmed that the full downloadable titles will be: five Sony developed titles, including Gran Tourismo, LittleBigPlanet, Motor Storm: Arctic Edge, Wipeout Pure, Pursuit Force: Extreme Justice; as well as the third-party titles EA’s FIFIA 2010 World Cup, Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars, Assassin’s Creed: Bloodlines, and one other.

Sony has never released actual sales figures for the PSPGo, but it is widely assumed that the sales have been lackluster. With rumors of the PSP2 rampant, but Sony continually claiming that the new device will not be announced at E3, Sony might be making one final push with the PSPGo before the PSP2 is officially announced.

Sony wants half of its PlayStation games on PC by 2025

Sony is looking to expand its presence on PC and mobile devices over the next few years, ultimately hoping to have at least half of its games on those platforms by 2025.

Sony's new goals were revealed during Sony's annual investor day, where a chart indicated that only a quarter of its games will land on PC and mobile this year. It appears the company has seen the benefits of its recent PC releases -- which have included previous PlayStation exclusives like God of War (2018), Days Gone, and Horizon Zero Dawn -- all of which have contributed to a substantial uptick in net sales on the platform. As a matter of fact, Sony is forecasting that its PC sales will skyrocket to $300 million in 2022, an impressive increase over last year's $80 million.

Some of Sony's upcoming PlayStation 1 and PSP titles started appearing on the Asian PlayStation Store. Currently, games like Ape Escape, Mr. Driller, and Tekken 2 are exclusively available on the Hong Kong digital marketplace. While none of these are up for grabs on the Western PlayStation Store, we do have something to go off of on how much they may cost when they do become purchasable.

Of the retro games currently released, the prices run from HK$38 to HK$78. A quick monetary conversion shows that when the titles are brought over to the U.S. PlayStation Store they'll most likely run from $5 to $10. There's currently no indication of what dictates the variation in the cost of each game.

Sony reportedly requiring timed trials for games over $34

According to a new report, Sony is currently informing its developers about a new rule that will require all games over $34 to have a timed trial for PlayStation Plus Premium subscribers.

While we previously knew very little about how the way PlayStation Plus Premium trials would work, sources have told Game Developer that any game over the threshold will be required to include a trial that lasts a minimum of two hours. The change is not retroactive, nor does it apply to VR-specific titles, but developers releasing games on PlayStation 5 in the future will now need to allot time and resources to create these trials.
