PS4 gamers won't get access to the cool Fallout 4 mods — thanks alot, Sony

Sony has canned the idea of bringing mods to Fallout 4 and Skyrim on the PlayStation 4, prohibiting fans from being able to do whatever they want. Although months of discussion and development went into bringing user made mods to the PS4, Fallout 4 and Skyrim will remain stock on that platform, presumably because Sony just didn’t like the idea.

“Sony has informed us they will not approve user mods the way they should work: where users can do anything they want for either Fallout 4 or Skyrim Special Edition,” said Bethesda in a blog post.

Bethesda lamented the decision, saying it was really disappointed — especially since it had put so much time and effort into bringing mods to the console. It also highlighted how much of a shame this must be for many PS4 gamers who were hoping to expand their games on the platform with new content and options only possible through modifications.

Bethesda did say that it hopes that some time in the future it can turn things around and bring mods to the PS4, but that as it stands Sony just wasn’t interested in making it work. For now, no mods will be available for either Fallout 4 or Skyrim on PS4.

This does seem like an odd choice for Sony, since one of the big reasons games like Skyrim are still popular after so many years is because of mods. Through their inclusion, gamers have been able to add new weapons, mounts, enemies, regions, and even whole new segments of gameplay that practically double the potential playtime.

And you can replace all wasteland Deathclaws with Macho Man if you like.

But unfortunately this isn’t something that anyone on PS4 will be able to appreciate. Mods work just fine on Xbox One and PC though, so if you want to play Fallout 4 with Buzz Lightyear armor, make sure you’re playing on one of those platforms instead.
