‘SoulCalibur VI’ will blaze onto Steam, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One in 2018

SOULCALIBUR VI Announcement Trailer | PS4, XB1, PC
Bandai Namco’s Motohiro Kubo revealed the next chapter in the popular SoulCalibur franchise, SoulCalibur VI, during the 2017 Game Awards Thursday night.

SoulCalibur VI is being made in Epic Games’ Unreal Engine 4, and will launch on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and Steam in 2018. Unfortunately, that’s all we really know about the upcoming fighter for now.

Soulcalibur VI’s teaser trailer lasts just over a minute, and shows Mitsurugi battling Sophitia throughout the clip with Nightmare’s sword throw in to add a little darkness. You also get a brief glimpse of the story in visions of people scattering for cover, going to war across a crowded battlefield, and so on. The on-screen action has all the  classic Soulcalibur-flavored flair fans are looking for, not to mention shields, swords, axes, and special abilities.

The SoulCalibur series began as an arcade game called Soul Edge in 1995, and then moved to the consoles with a sequel, SoulCalibur, released on Sega’s Dreamcast in 1999. The most recent installment, SoulCalibur V, landed on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in 2012. There are also a handful of spinoffs, including a free-to-play version of SoulCalibur V on the PlayStation Network, and a game designed specifically for Apple’s iOS platform.

That said, long-time fans were undoubtedly excited over the first tease of SoulCalibur’s sixth installment. Mitsurugi and Sophitia are regulars in the series, but currently we don’t know enough about the game to list the other members on the roster. The lineup could include regulars Astaroth, Cassandra, Ivy, Kilik, Maxi, Siegfried, Yoshimitsu, and more. Hopefully, we’ll know more before E3 2018 approaches in June.

SoulCalibur VI was just one of many surprises during the 2017 Game Awards show. The long-awaited second DLC pack for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild saw an official launch during the show. Overwatch landed the Best Ongoing Game Award, and Metroid: Samus Returns landed the Best Handheld Game award. Meanwhile, Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus scored the Best Action Game award, but we still didn’t have a winner for Game of the Year by the time Soulcalibur VI made its teasing debut.

“Welcome back to The Stage of History!” Bandai Namco said. “Check out the announcement trailer and get ready for the triumphant return of 3D weapons-based fighting.”

Time to get those swords sharpened once again!

The Nintendo Switch's versatility has made it the bestselling console for the last five years. It has sold so well, in fact, that it has surpassed the lifetime sales of the PS4, according to The NPD Group.

Mat Piscatella, executive director and gaming industry advisor for The NPD Group, tweeted the sales figures for the Switch on Friday. He points out that the Switch is now the fourth highest unit selling console in U.S, and the sixth highest selling console overall, coming behind just three other bestselling consoles of all time, the PS2, Xbox 360, and Wii, Nintendo's legacy console. He also said that the Switch sold more units than any other console last month and outpaced Xbox Series X/S year-to-date.

While we know that One Piece Odyssey will be a JRPG with quests, dungeons, and turn-based combat. A developer interview video shows some footage of Luffy exploring One Piece Odyssey's world and solving an environmental puzzle in a dungeon.
The announcement also confirms that ILCA, the developer of Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, is the primary developer of this game. In the aforementioned interview video, producer Katsuaki Tsuzuki also confirmed that One Piece creator Eiichiro Oda advised the development team on the project and even provided art for the characters and enemies.
A message from Oda also appears at the start of the announcement trailer, and he certainly seems quite excited about the project. "I thought to myself, wasn't it like three years ago when I designed the characters?!" he said, revealing how long One Piece Odyssey has been in development. "But when I actually saw the game ... wow! It felt like I was watching a movie! What incredible immersion."
One Piece Odyssey will be released for PC, PS4, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S later in 2022.

PlayStation console-exclusive Godfall finally coming to Xbox
Four characters pose stoically in Godfall: Ultimate Edition's key art.

PlayStation is losing console exclusivity on one of the PS5's most notable launch games, Godfall. Developer Counterplay Games and Gearbox confirmed today that the live-service action game will come to Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and Steam on April 7.
The Xbox and Steam releases coincide with the launch of Godfall: Ultimate Edition, a new version of the game that contains all of the DLC and updates for the game thus far. Godfall: Ultimate Edition will normally cost $40, though it will be discounted to only $30 at launch on Xbox consoles and Steam. It does not appear that Godfall: Ultimate Edition will be available via Xbox Game Pass on day one, so interested players will have to go out of their way to purchase it. If they do, those players will find that the Xbox Series X version Godfall supports variable refresh rate and Dolby Vision HDR.

On April 7, the Exalted update for Godfall will also launch and introduce many new features to the game. In addition to combat, boss, and menu tweaks, a new Valorplate shard system will be implemented and allow players to further customize their weapons' abilities. A revive system and a recovery skill that will enable players to quickly recover from being knocked down are also coming, so Godfall shouldn't be as punishing for Xbox players. This update will also introduce two new modes. The Exalted Tower of Trials will be a tough endgame challenge that will feature enemies up to level 150 and spawn multiple bosses simultaneously. Meanwhile, the Spirit Realms mode will task six players with working together to explore the material and spirit planes as they fight enemies.
Godfall: Ultimate Edition launches for Steam, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S on April 7. The game is currently available on PS4, PS5, and the Epic Games Store.
