Spider-Man 2 is coming in 2023 — and it’s bringing Venom

Spider-Man 2 was revealed at today’s PlayStation showcase. A quick trailer gave us a few key details about the project, including a 2023 release date and the revelation that Venom will be a villain in the title.

No gameplay was shown, but a slick trailer showed both Peter Parker and Miles Morales fighting down a dark alley. After taking on several smaller enemies, they confront something dark from the shadows. At the end of the trailer, it’s revealed that Venom will play a role in the game, possibly as its main villain. Two characters could mean a potential co-op mode for the game.

Spider-Man 2 comes on the heels of Spider-Man, one of the most celebrated PlayStation exclusives. The first game’s lush open world, tight combat, and fun web-slinging made exploring the game’s version of New York City a delight. Insomniac, the studio behind both games’ development, is known for its great narrative games. Spider-Man made waves for its high-quality graphics and strong characterization, both of which will likely extend into Spider-Man 2.

Villain Venom has been in the news recently as the star of the upcoming movie Venom: Let There Be Carnage, the latest comic-based Marvel film. Tony Todd, a voice actor known for Star Trek, will be voicing him in the game. Fans are excited to see these comic book legends come together as part of a critically-acclaimed gaming franchise, but it remains to be seen exactly what role the monster will play.

Little else is known about Spider-Man 2 at this time. The game will not be coming until 2023, but Sony and Insomniac will certainly show additional footage down the road.

Vampire-themed online survival game V Rising is finally hitting consoles. Developer Stunlock Studios announced that the game will release June 11 on the PlayStation 5.

In a new trailer released Monday, the studio also revealed that players who preorder the game on PS5 will get early access five days ahead of time. The base game will cost $40 (or $36 with a PlayStation Plus subscription). Players can also grab the Legacy of Castlevania edition for $60, which comes with a number of Castlevania-themed cosmetics.

Is Helldivers 2 coming to Xbox?

Helldivers 2 was a massive hit right out of the gate for developer Arrowhead Game Studios, and the game's popularity has only grown since its release in February of this year. Shedding the top-down perspective of the first Helldivers, this cooperative third-person shooter took the world by surprise by being equally hilarious, fun, and challenging. It demands everyone work together to overcome massive hordes of bugs while also dealing with the fact that one player's slipup could derail the whole mission in the most humorous fashion. It's very unlikely that Helldivers 2 will ever come to Xbox consoles. The primary reason for this is that Helldivers 2 is published by Sony Computer Entertainment, which is a direct competitor to Microsoft. I looked through the full list of game trials that PlayStation Plus Premium offers and pinpointed three of the demos that are most worth your time.

The first is a two-hour demo for one of the PlayStation 5's biggest exclusives. The next will give you a two-hour taste of the latest fighting game in a long-running franchise. Finally, the one-hour trial of one of the year's best indies will get you hooked on the card-based roguelike that consumed my life for a bit.
