Star Wars: Squadrons headlines June 2021 PS Plus lineup

Sony announced the new PlayStation Plus lineup for the month of June, which includes Operation: Tango, Virtua Fighter 5: Ultimate Showdown, and Star Wars: Squadrons. The games will be available to download for PS Plus members starting on June 1, replacing the previous month’s offerings.

Star Wars: Squadrons is the biggest name in the bunch. It’s a multiplayer dogfighting game that puts players in control of X-wings and TIE fighters. The game features a full-fledged single-player story mode that takes place after the events of Return of the Jedi. It allows players to participate in missions as part of the New Republic and the Empire, offering both perspectives as the two factions battle it out. Star Wars: Squadrons features a competitive multiplayer mode as well, and is even fully playable in PSVR.

June 2021’s PS Plus lineup also includes Virtua Fighter 5: Ultimate Showdown for PS4. This was previously announced as a PS4 exclusive and serves as a remaster of Virtua Fighter V, which originally launched in 2006. This remaster offers improved visuals and is overseen by Yakuza and Judgment developer Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio. It will include an all-new online mode, as well as an improved UI.

Finally, PS Plus users get Operation: Tango, a “cooperative spy adventure” where players complete missions online with friends. The game will launch the same day it comes to PS Plus. It leans into effective communication between both team members, who play as either an Agent or a Hacker. Operation: Tango requires players to have a working microphone to participate. Only the PS5 version is available via PS Plus, despite the game also launching on PS4.

3 PS Plus free demos you should try this weekend (May 17-19)
Peter attacks enemies with the Symbiote Suit in Marvel's Spider-Man 2.

One of the most underrated features of PlayStation Plus Premium is the game trials that it offers. Although Sony does not put its AAA games on the service the day they release, it and several other third-party publishers offer up free demos that essentially give players full access to the game for a limited period of time. It's a great way to test a new game before you buy and it also gives you an excuse to try out a variety of different games this weekend without making the time commitment to beat them all. I looked through the full list of game trials that PlayStation Plus Premium offers and pinpointed three of the demos that are most worth your time.

The first is a two-hour demo for one of the PlayStation 5's biggest exclusives. The next will give you a two-hour taste of the latest fighting game in a long-running franchise. Finally, the one-hour trial of one of the year's best indies will get you hooked on the card-based roguelike that consumed my life for a bit.

3 PlayStation Plus games you need to play this weekend (May 10-12)
Miles Morales in Spider-Man outfit fending off crime.

The weekend is here, so you probably want to sit back and relax by playing some video games. If you're subscribed to PlayStation Plus Premium or Extra on PS4 or PS5, then there are tons of fantastic titles to choose from in the subscription service's vast game catalog. It's a lot to sift through, so I've handpicked three titles I think you should check out if you haven't played them already.

One is a superhero game that launched alongside the PS5 and can be beaten within a weekend. The next is an eerie indie Metroidvania that just got added to PS Plus Extra when it launched on May 9. Finally, there's a sequel to a fantastic roguelike (not Hades 2) where you play as a new person in the same family every time you die.
