The August 2014 offering for Microsoft’s Xbox Games With Gold program makes two games for Xbox One and two games for Xbox 360 temporarily free to download for Xbox Live Gold members.

Xbox One launch title Crimson Dragon will be available all month long. The game is an on-rails shooter in which you fly around on the back of a dragon; it’s from the creator of the Panzer Dragoon series and is said to be a spiritual successor to those games. Also available on Xbox One for the duration of August is Strike Suit Zero, a space combat sim from Born Again Studios that stands out for its titular ship, which transforms into a Gundam-style robot.

For the Xbox 360, and only available for the first half of August (from August 1-15), Microsoft is making Motocross Madness, a reimagining of the PC game of the same name from 1998, available to Xbox Live Gold members. And for the back half of August (from August 16-31), Xbox 360 gamers will be able to get their hands on Arkane Studios’ Dishonored for free. The stealth-action game follows the bodyguard to an Empress as he attempts to clear his name after he’s framed for her murder (read our review of it here).

All of these games are free to download for the length of their Games With Gold availability, but you can keep them as long as you want afterward (provided you keep your Xbox Live Gold subscription).

Basim perched on a ledge overlooking Baghdad

In a company interview with CEO Yves Guillemot posted on the Ubisoft website Thursday, the executive reveals that there are remakes of Assassin's Creed games in the works, although he doesn't specify which ones.

"Players can be excited about some remakes, which will allow us to revisit some of the games we've created in the past and modernize them," he says, implying that it could pertain to games made before Odyssey. "There are worlds in some of our older Assassin's Creed games that are still extremely rich."

Surfaced patent shows what an Xbox streaming console would’ve looked like
An Xbox Series X sits next to both Series S models.

There have been a few Xbox devices that have never come to fruition, one of which was Keystone, a prototype for an affordable game streaming device you could hook up to your TV or monitor. Thanks to a surfaced patent, we've gotten an even closer look at what it would've potentially looked like.

The patent, first spotted by Windows Central, gives us a more complete view of the device. We've previously seen the Keystone in the flesh. Microsoft Gaming head Phil Spencer is known for hiding teases and interesting collectibles on the shelf in his office. In a 2022 X (formerly Twitter) post congratulating Bethesda on Fallout's 25th anniversary, you can see a small white device on the top shelf that's actually a Keystone prototype. Xbox told Digital Trends that it was a version of the device made before it decided to "refocus our efforts on a new approach.”
