Super Nintendo World will also rise at Universal’s Epic Universe in Orlando

Super Nintendo World, which is opening in Universal Studios Osaka this summer, is officially also rising in Orlando, Florida.

Executives of Comcast, the parent company of Universal Studios, confirmed in a fourth-quarter earnings call that a second Super Nintendo World will be part of the Epic Universe, a new park that is scheduled to open its doors in 2023 as an expansion of Universal Studios Orlando.

There has been speculation that Super Nintendo World, after Osaka, would also arrive at the Orlando, Hollywood, and Singapore locations of Universal Studios. This is the first official confirmation from Comcast that the Nintendo-themed attraction will be made available outside of Japan.

Comcast executives also discussed the potential of Super Nintendo World to draw big crowds, according to Orlando television station, WESH.

“I think the next big thing on the horizon is Nintendo. Nintendo, based on our research is one of the biggest potential drivers of attendance that you could have of any kind of IP. It’s up there with Harry Potter,” said an executive.

Massive hype is already building up for Super Nintendo World in Universal Studios Osaka, especially after Nintendo released a music video, in collaboration with Charli XCX Galantis, that that promoted the theme park’s upcoming summer opening.

Nintendo confirmed that Super Nintendo World visitors will wear a Power Up Band, which essentially transforms the theme park into a giant video game. Through the wearable device, visitors will be able to collect coins and perform other tasks.

Universal Parks & Resorts chairman and CEO Tom Williams previously said that Super Nintendo World will somehow integrate the Nintendo Switch into the experience, but how exactly that will work remains unclear. What is confirmed, meanwhile, is that the first phase will offer two attractions, namely Super Mario Kart Ride and Yoshi’s Adventures, and it appears that the music video offered glimpses of both.

It has not been officially confirmed that the attractions and features of Super Nintendo World in Universal Studios Osaka will be the same in its version in Universal Studios Orlando’s Epic Universe. However, for Nintendo fans in the U.S., this is already great news as they will not have to travel to Japan to enjoy the theme park.

5 game adaptations that could build a Super Mario Bros. Cinematic Universe
best-single-player-nintendo-switch-games

The Super Mario Bros. Movie is in theaters now and it’s getting a mixed reception. While some aren’t impressed by its thin story and Minions-like humor, Mario fans generally seem happy with what’s at least a visually faithful take on the iconic gaming series. There’s a good chance it’ll be a financial success even with middling reviews, so you can bet that Nintendo and Illumination are already cooking up sequel plans.

The next installment might just come in the form of Super Mario Bros. 2, but there’s real potential here for a new MCU: the Mario Cinematic Universe. With decades' worth of mainline games, spinoffs, and characters, there’s no shortage of material that could be used to build out Mario’s silver screen world. If Nintendo is looking to expand its cinematic ambitions, these five games could serve as inspiration for what Illumination’s next adaptation looks like.

Everything announced at the June 2022 Nintendo Direct Mini Partner Showcase
Mario, Rabbid Peach, and more characters pose in Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope key art.

Lagging behind a strong State of Play from Sony and an excellent Xbox & Bethesda Games Showcase from Microsoft, Nintendo has now held a presentation of its own. It's not a full-blown Nintendo Direct, though. Instead, this June 28 presentation is a Nintendo Direct Mini Partner Showcase, the first of its kind since 2020. As the showcase's name suggests, this is shorter than a typical Nintendo Direct and mainly focused on what third-party developers and publishers are bringing to Nintendo Switch in the coming months.
As Nintendo has said that this presentation would contain "roughly 25 minutes of info on upcoming third-party #NintendoSwitch games" on Twitter, don't expect the likes of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2 or Metroid Prime 4 to show up here. Still, there are plenty of cool games like Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope that make an appearance here, and we have a clearer idea of what the biggest third-party Nintendo Switch games of 2022 are. We kept track of everything announced during the Nintendo Direct Mini Partner Showcase, so you can look below and see everything Nintendo and its partners revealed throughout the event.
