Bastion was first released in 2011, and tells the story of the Kid, who heads for the safety of a legendary stronghold known as the Bastion after an event known as the Calamity breaks the world around him into pieces. The game initially launched as part of the Xbox Summer of Arcade showcase, and found many fans thanks to its unusual visual design and a memorable performance from Logan Cunningham as the narrator.
“Bringing Bastion to Xbox One was more involved than flipping a switch that says ‘make it backwards compatible’!” read a blog post on the official Supergiant Games website announcing the release.
The developer states that the game has been “re-built” in an attempt to make it feel like a native Xbox One release, rather than a port from an older system. To that end, the game runs in 1080p, rather than the 720p resolution of the Xbox 360 version.
The new release also features several more achievements than the original, and comes with the Stranger’s Dream DLC included.
Since Bastion, Supergiant Games released a second game in the action RPG genre, Transistor. In April 2016, the company unveiled its next project, Pyre — however, that game is only confirmed for a PlayStation 4 and PC release at this time.
Bastion is scheduled to release for the Xbox One on December 12, and will be priced at $15. Anyone who already picked up the game on the Xbox 360 has until January 1, 2017 to download the re-release for free.
