Rockstar Games has released the third trailer for Red Dead Redemption 2, and it gives eager players more insight into protagonist Arthur Morgan and the Van der Linde gang. With the 20th century quickly approaching and the authorities snuffing out the few remaining outlaws in the west, the gang finds itself at the breaking point, and Arthur must decide what he wants to do with the rest of his life.
“Listen to me. We don’t want to kill any of you,” robber Dutch Van der Linde says in the trailer to the occupants of a train his gang has stopped. “But trust me — we will. Wake them up a little!”
Though it’s set 10 years before the original Red Dead Redemption, which took place in 1911, Arthur Morgan knows his days as an outlaw on the run are nearing their end, and in the trailer he refers to his kind as “ghosts.” Others in the gang don’t appear to feel the same way, adamant that the authorities won’t be able to stop Van der Linde. From his inclusion in the first Red Dead Redemption, we know this much to be true, at least, but a botched robbery in the town of Blackwater could spell trouble for the other members.
“With federal agents and the bet bounty hunters in the nation massing on their heels, the gang must rob, steal, and fight their way across the rugged heartland of America in order to survive,” Rockstar said in the description of the trailer on YouTube. “As deepening internal divisions threaten to tear the gang apart, Arthur must make a choice between his own ideals and loyalty to the gang who raised him.”
The trailer also shows us a brief glimpse of hand-to-hand combat, though it isn’t clear if we’ll actually be able to participate or if it’s just limited to cinematics. Characters bare-knuckle box, tackle each other to the ground, and stab each other with blades. We also see a character held hostage with a knife at his neck, and as this is a Red Dead Redemption game, we expect to slow down time and fire off a headshot with our revolver to save the day.

Red Dead Redemption 2 is out for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on October 26.
