Titanfall‘s sequel will not be exclusive to Windows and Xbox like the first game was, publisher Electronic Arts have suggested. According to IGN, EA chief financial officer Blake Jorgensen told the Technology, Internet & Media conference that the as-yet-unannounced sequel will “probably” happen, and on multiple platforms:

“Last year it was on the Xbox only; in the future, we haven’t yet announced, but we’ll probably have another Titanfall game. It will probably be a bigger footprint than just a single platform. I think that’s a huge positive for us.”

Developer Respawn Entertainment’s debut launched in March of 2014, exclusively for Windows and Xbox platforms. Although that game was confirmed as a “lifetime” exclusive on Microsoft’s machines, rumors prior to the launch suggested that a sequel would not be locked in to one family of platforms like its predecessor.

According to IGN, Jorgensen explained that EA intends to launch at least one new first-person shooter per year. This year is set with Battlefield Hardline and the revival of Star Wars: Battlefront, and 2016 centers around Battlefield 5 (and possibly the Mirror’s Edge sequel). Whether Titanfall‘s follow-up arrives in 2016 or later is still up in the air, though Repawn did confirm to Game Informer that 2015 would be a quiet, “heads down, back to work” kind of year, so don’t anticipate any new releases from the team in the immediate future.

Titanfall 2 is going free to play on Steam this weekend. The move comes one week after the five-year old shooter broke new records on Steam when fans flocked to the long-dormant game.

First released in 2016, Titanfall 2 is a first-person shooter by Respawn Entertainment. The game initially had the misfortune of launching during a crowded holiday season next to Battlefield 1 and Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare. It initially got lost in the shuffle, but is gaining new interest after Respawn announced that it's adding elements of the game to Apex Legends. Last weekend, the game hit its highest Steam player count ever, with its player base rising 650% seemingly out of nowhere.

Titanfall 2, one of the best shooters ever, will be free on PlayStation Plus
Titanfall 2

Electronic Arts and Respawn Entertainment first kicked off their relationship with Titanfall, a unique take on first-person shooters that introduced walking mechanical suits to the formula. That formula was perfected in Titanfall 2, and if you haven't played its excellent campaign or multiplayer mode yet, you can do so for free with PlayStation Plus next month.

Available beginning December 3 and running through January 6, Titanfall 2 will be available completely free to those with a PlayStation Plus subscription. It offers a more refined and deeper competitive multiplayer mode than the original game, with customizable Titan classes and tons of different weapons and abilities to use. It also has some of the best map design in any first-person shooter, with spots for snipers to pick off targets, wall-running opportunities, and flatter areas perfect for Titan-versus-Titan combat. Downloadable content like additional maps have all been free, so you'll be able to experience the full game with anyone else on PS4.

In a company interview with CEO Yves Guillemot posted on the Ubisoft website Thursday, the executive reveals that there are remakes of Assassin's Creed games in the works, although he doesn't specify which ones.

"Players can be excited about some remakes, which will allow us to revisit some of the games we've created in the past and modernize them," he says, implying that it could pertain to games made before Odyssey. "There are worlds in some of our older Assassin's Creed games that are still extremely rich."
