Transformers: Dark of the Moon game has a new trailer

If you film it, they will come…and make a video game tie-in for it. Activision has released a new trailer for the upcoming Transformers: Dark of the Moon video game, which will feature “an original prologue storyline to the upcoming film and debut in-game ‘stealth force’ conversion mode”.

The original storyline is self-explanatory, but no word on what the “in-game stealth force” is all about.

Although video game adaptations and tie-ins to upcoming movies are typically pitiable things, like the mangy dog you find out in the street that you know will never do tricks and won’t impress anyone, but you just love that particular breed of dog so much that you are willing to take a try, right up until that dog shows you its bland level design and rushed gameplay–dogplay. Whatever, the analogy is wearing a bit thin, but you get the point.

But the developers for this title, High Moon Studios, are the group responsible for the surprisingly solid and well received Transformers: War for Cybertron. Of course that game was a standalone project that told a story set well before the movies so it did not need to coordinate with Transformers director Michael “boom boom” Bay, and that title actually has its own sequel due out sometime in 2012. This new Transformers game seems to be a different animal altogether, although you can almost certainly expect a very similar style of gameplay.

If High Moon Studios has had the time to create the game they want for the upcoming movie, it may be worth checking out. But as the developer’s last game was released less than a year ago, it does raise questions about how much development time was spent on the title. Time will tell.

No release date has been given for the Transformer: Dark of the Moon video game, but with the movie due in theaters on July 1, you can expect the game sometime in June for PS3 and Xbox 360, and if the developer remains true to its past history, then there will likely be a modified Wii version as well.

Horror games have an interesting lineage. Most gamers' first real exposure to what we consider the template for "modern" horror was the original Resident Evil or, perhaps, Silent Hill. However, even those games had clear influences. One was a somewhat obscure Japanese game called Sweet Home, but in terms of 3D horror, Alone in the Dark was an experience like nothing else. Based on the unique cosmic horror writing of H.P. Lovecraft, this series, unfortunately, saw a fast fall from grace with the arrival of its sequels.

Despite a few leaks, most were still caught off guard by the announcement that Alone in the Dark would not only be coming back, but the new game would apparently be a reboot of the series that aims to take it back to its survival-horror roots. There are nearly as many mysteries surrounding the revival of this historic IP as there are in its narrative, but we've braved the dark corners of the internet to bring you everything we know about Alone in the Dark.

October is so crowded for games that Alone in the Dark is moving to 2024

A remake of the influential horror game classic Alone in the Dark was supposed to come out in October, but THQ Nordic and Pieces Interactive just delayed the game until January 16, 2024. The reason? Because this October is just too packed with game releases.

The original Alone in the Dark came out on PC in 1992 and pioneered the 3D survival horror game genre. Its fixed camera angles and puzzle focus clearly helped inspire the original Resident Evil, which has gone on to become an even more successful horror franchise. While Alone in the Dark received a string of bad games and then remained dormant for some time, franchise owner THQ Nordic decided to take a page out of Capcom's playbook and create a remake that plays from a third-person perspective. It's shaping up to be a significant game launch for THQ Nordic as it stars Hollywood talent like David Harbour and Jodie Comer.
THQ Nordic delved more into its reasoning in a press release. "Our intention is to avoid competing with the wake of Alan's epic release and to evade the dazzling skyline of cities adorned by the graceful swings of Spider-Man," the press release explains. "We aim to truly remain as Alone in the Dark as possible. To honor this, the spine-chilling horror game has been rescheduled to unveil its horrors on January 16, 2024. This extension will serve a dual purpose: Not only will it permit us to meticulously perfect the gaming experience, but it will also grant us the opportunity to fully immerse ourselves in the remarkable releases of October."
As such, it makes sense that it'd shift the game's release to a place where it has a better chance for success, rather than just days after the likes of Marvel's Spider-Man 2 and Alan Wake 2. Alone in the Dark launches for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S on January 16, 2024. If you do want to try a bit of the game before then, a free Prologue for the game is already available across all of those same platforms.
