At the Ubisoft E3 press event at the Orpheum Theater in Las Angelas, Ubisoft showcased highlights from many of its major game releases for the coming year. Part of that highlight included two new games that Ubisoft hopes will get you moving, whether it be to dance or to get in shape.
While part of the Ubisoft event already included the latest addition to the Just Dance series, Ubisoft also revealed Just Dance Now, a mobile compliment to the Just Dance series that will allow gamers to get grooving just about anywhere.
According to Ubisoft, the game will work by using the player’s smartphone to track movement, no need for a Xbox One, PS4, or Wii for motion tracking. Instead, all you need is your smartphone and a screen to view the experience on. Just Dance Now will require an Internet connection to work, but there’s no limit to the number of players so long as everyone has a smartphone to play along with.
Another movement-oriented initiative by Ubisoft was the reveal of Shape Up, a new Ubisoft game designed around fitness for gamers. According to the game’s producer, Charles Huteau, gamers will be more willing to do the un-fun parts of fitness like pushups and squats if it’s part of a game. Players can get into the fitness experience and compete against others, and themselves through a special ghost mode. This is far from the first fitness game we’ve seen for a console, but it is the first of its kind made by Ubisoft.
It’s clear Ubisoft is ready to take its movement-based games to the next generation of consoles with both of these games as well as the upcoming Just Dance 2015. Of course this also depends on whether or not the gamers feel like doing pushups for fun.
