V Rising comes to PS5 this June alongside Castlevania special edition

Vampire-themed online survival game V Rising is finally hitting consoles. Developer Stunlock Studios announced that the game will release June 11 on the PlayStation 5.

In a new trailer released Monday, the studio also revealed that players who preorder the game on PS5 will get early access five days ahead of time. The base game will cost $40 (or $36 with a PlayStation Plus subscription). Players can also grab the Legacy of Castlevania edition for $60, which comes with a number of Castlevania-themed cosmetics.

Then, there’s the Complete Edition for $100, which features a number of additional DLC packs. Along with the Castlevania pack, the most expensive bundle comes with the Sinister Evolution, Dracula’s Relics, and Eldest Bloodline packs. Most of these are also cosmetic, but there are various accessories and items mixed in as well.

As per usual, PS5 players will need PS Plus to play online, although playing online is optional.

All of this is to say that PS5 players will be able to buy bundles similar to what PC players on Steam already have. However, it doesn’t appear that PS5 users will be able to play with PC users. In an interview with Wccftech, a spokesperson from Stunlock (the article doesn’t specify who) said that crossplay seemed “pretty unlikely at this time.”

V Rising had been in early access for two years before the 1.0 announcement back in March. When the full version released on May 8, player count soared. It didn’t quite hit its all-time peak, but it’s been holding steady ever since among the most played games on Steam, according to SteamDB.

My favorite announcement of Sony's May 30 State of Play was Astro Bot, a new 3D platformer from Team Asobi that celebrates PlayStation history. It looks incredibly charming and stands out from the typical narrative-action games like Stellar Blade that Sony tends to release these days. That said, my excitement also comes with disappointment as it does not appear that the game will support PlayStation VR2. (Digital Trends reached out to Sony to confirm that was the case but has not gotten a response at the time of publishing this story.)

Astro Bot is already looking like a PS5 classic in delightful first trailer

During Sony's May 2024 State of Play presentation, Sony revealed a new Astro Bot game -- simply titled Astro Bot. It's the third game in the platformer series, and it's due out for PlayStation 5 on September 6.

The game's reveal trailer shows our hero Astro waking up in a desert by a fox-shaped robot. He then flies off on a ship shaped like a DualSense controller. The trailer shows Astro visiting several diverse biomes, including arctic areas, beaches, and even high up in the clouds. Several PlayStation cameos are in the trailer as well, including Parappa the Rappa, Kratos from God of War Ragnarok, and Aloy from Horizon Forbidden West.

PlayStation revealed a new cinematic trailer for its live-service sci-fi game Concord during the May 2024 State of Play presentation. Firewalk Studios also showed off gameplay featuring five of its characters. It also got a fresh release date of August 23 for the PS5 and PC; a beta will also be hosted in July.

Concord is a 5vs5 shooter taking place in the Concord galaxy. Players assume the role of a mercenary-type figure called a Freerunner and are part of an an intergalactic spacefaring crew called Northstar. The five characters unveiled are Vale, a woman with a knack for snipers; Haymar, a woman who can shoot fireballs; the blue brute Star Child; the mohawk-sporting Lennox; and the robot 1-Off. At launch, there will be 16 characters to choose from. The game will also have free post-launch updates that will add more characters, maps, vignettes, and more.
