Xbox Games With Gold for November offers some belated scares

Xbox - November Games with Gold
Halloween may fall on October 31, but Microsoft and Xbox will still be offering plenty of spookiness, as well as a little bit of ’80s camp, with November’s free Games With Gold.

For the entire month of November, Xbox One owners will be able to download Super Dungeon Bros., a hard rock-fueled cooperative action game with a vibrant color scheme and character designs that look like old Bionicle toys. The game will be released for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC on November 1, the first day it will be available for free to Xbox Live Gold members.

From November 16 until December 15, Xbox One owners can also pick up Murdered: Soul Suspect. You play as Ronan O’Connor, a detective murdered in the legendary horror setting of Salem. The game released in 2014 to a less-than-stellar reception, with our review criticizing its poor characterization and lack of challenge. Less then a month after Murdered: Soul Suspect was released, developer Airtight Games shut down.

Xbox 360 owners — and Xbox One owners through backward compatibility — will be able to download The Secret of Monkey Island: Special Edition from November 1 though November 15. The game is a 2009 remastered version of the original 1990 point-and-click adventure and may have the best protagonist name in the history of video games: “Guybrush Threepwood.”

Finally, Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon will be available for both Xbox One and Xbox 360 from November 16 until November 30. A neon-filled spinoff of the excellent Far Cry 3, Blood Dragon swaps out the bullets and realism for lasers and some of the goofiest enemies we’ve seen from Ubisoft. If you’re looking for a little bit of camp, particularly as you eat your leftover Halloween candy, this is the perfect choice. A “sequel,” Trials of the Blood Dragon, was also released earlier this year.

Microsoft has revealed the titles coming to its Game Pass service this February. The biggest title is Ark: Ultimate Survivor Edition, which includes the base title Ark: Survival Evolved as well as the game's many expansion packs.

This month's lineup also includes Telling Lies, another non-linear thriller directed by the creator of Her Story, and a variety of other indie titles. These additions to Game Pass come in the wake of Microsoft's explosive announcement of its intent to purchase Activision Blizzard last month.

As powerful as this new generation of gaming consoles are, the reality is that they'll still be limited in terms of what graphical features are available.

As evidenced by some recent revelations on how Far Cry 6 will compare on PC versus console, PC gamers can rest assured that their super-powerful graphics cards are still leagues ahead.

Basim perched on a ledge overlooking Baghdad

In a company interview with CEO Yves Guillemot posted on the Ubisoft website Thursday, the executive reveals that there are remakes of Assassin's Creed games in the works, although he doesn't specify which ones.

"Players can be excited about some remakes, which will allow us to revisit some of the games we've created in the past and modernize them," he says, implying that it could pertain to games made before Odyssey. "There are worlds in some of our older Assassin's Creed games that are still extremely rich."
