Halo Infinite and Xbox are getting more accessibility features

Microsoft just hosted its first Xbox Accessibility Showcase, where the company showed off a video celebrating gamers with disabilities, shined a spotlight on Minecraft: Education Edition‘s usage in neuro-diverse job interviews, and revealed new gaming features coming to the Xbox and Halo Infinite.

Xbox Accessibility Showcase - October 2021

Xbox has been one of the leading faces in the world of accessibility in gaming. Years ago, the company produced the groundbreaking Xbox Adaptive Controller, which allows gamers with limited mobility to play games with completely customizable controls. Now it is pushing for more accessibility in its ecosystem, with even more features coming to Xbox and future titles.

During the Accessibility Showcase, Xbox announced that accessibility feature tags are on the way to the Xbox Store, which will allow players with disabilities to immediately find out what games they can actually play before playing them. The tags show the accessibility features included in the game of choice without the need for additional searches.

Along with that, the entire Xbox console is getting an accessibility update that will introduce a refreshed accessibility spotlight page, quick settings, color filters, night mode, and more.

Xbox is also putting a huge focus on accessibility with its upcoming title Halo Infinite. As soon as its December 8 launch, Halo Infinite will include features that allow players to customize their game and make it more suited to their needs.

Xbox has confirmed that the new features include:

  • The ability to adjust the font size and background opacity for subtitles
  • Text-to-speech and speech-to-text options 
  • New customizations for players to control their sound experience with different volume sliders for a variety of sounds in the game
  • New prosthetic options for gamers to customize their Spartans. 

EA also recently opened all its accessibility patents to competitors to push more companies to focus on gamers with disabilities. Hopefully, this work on inclusivity inspires more companies to search for even more ways to allow those with disabilities to game in ways perfect for them.

After days of speculation, Xbox confirmed that Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 will come to Xbox Game Pass at launch. Xbox has not specified which platforms it will come to, though.

When Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 was officially announced last week, fans immediately began speculating about its Game Pass status. It's the first Call of Duty title released since Microsoft successfully acquired Activision Blizzard, so a Game Pass launch seemed likely. This was a big week for Xbox as it received its first console-exclusive first-party game of the year in Senua's Saga: Hellblade 2. We're also approaching a holiday weekend where you'll have a lot more time to play video games if you so choose. As such, there's one really easy recommendation I can make to people looking for what to play this weekend. Hellblade 2 is a very dark and mature game that depicts what it's like to have psychosis, though, so my other recommendations are a little more lighthearted.

The first is an indie game that launched in Xbox Game Pass earlier this month, where players control a cat exploring a city. The other is a collection of classic Pac-Man games that is leaving Xbox Game Pass very soon. Those two are worth checking out if you want some more relaxing, gameplay-focused fun this weekend after the intense experience Xbox Game Studios' latest offers.

Will Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 be on Xbox Game Pass?

Activision Blizzard, which is now owned by Microsoft, has just confirmed that the next Call of Duty game is titled Call of Duty: Black Ops 6. There's been one major point of contention ahead of this year's Call of Duty: Will it be on Xbox Game Pass at launch? A new report from The Wall Street Journal suggests that is the case.

Historically, Microsoft has added all its first-party games from Xbox Game Studios and Bethesda to Game Pass the day they launched. That applies to big AAA releases like Starfield, as well as more experimental titles like 2022's Pentiment and Senua's Saga: Hellblade 2, which came out this week. Microsoft's public messaging thus far has teased that Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 will come to the Xbox Game Pass. That said, Microsoft has not officially confirmed it, so there have been conflicting reports on this actually being the case.
