Xbox Live to Get Original Xbox Games

Xbox Live to Get Original Xbox Games

In conjunction with celebrating the fifth anniversary of its Xbox Live service, Microsoft has announced that it will begin selling games developed for the original Xbox game console via the Xbox Live Marketplace. Dubbed Xbox Originals, the availability will be tied to the upcoming December 4 update to the Xbox 360 Dashboard, and games will be on sale for 1,200 Microsoft points each, or about $15.

Titles scheduled for the initial rollout of Xbox Originals include Halo,Fable,Psychonauts, and Crimson Skies, with additional games scheduled to appear in the upcoming months. Microsoft hasn’t specified whether the games are significantly re-engineered for distribution and play via Xbox Live; for instance, the original version of Halo had its own online features.

The December 4 firmware update will also include new parental control capabilities, including a Family Timer feature that will enable parents to limit the total amount of time a child can play each day or each week.

You can now play the original Resident Evil on PC in all its retro glory

Capcom has made it easy to experience older Resident Evil titles with the help of its many recent remakes, but you were mostly out of luck on modern platforms if you wanted to actually play the original versions of those titles. Well, the GOG PC gaming storefront announced Wednesday that you'll soon be able to play the first three Resident Evil games in their (mostly) original forms.

Right now, however, only Resident Evil is available. For $10, you can play the iconic 1997 survival horror game with just a few quality-of-life improvements to make it run well on your Windows 10 or 11 PC. The GOG version makes some very small changes to the gameplay, including improving the timing of cutscenes and making it easier to exit the game, and it now has support for most modern controllers.

Jala and Sergio shake hands in Thirsty Suitors.

Netflix is getting cozy for summer (if such a thing is possible) with new additions to its service, including the latest title from a Netflix-acquired indie studio and 2023 hidden gem Thirty Suitors.

Spry Fox, the developer known for indie mobile titles such as Cozy Grove and Alphabear, is releasing Cozy Grove: Camp Spirit on the Netflix app on Tuesday. This is the big new addition this month, building on the success of the original indie game with new NPCs to interact with, a new island to explore, and some new mechanics. This is the developer's first game since Netflix acquired Spry Fox back in 2022.

Dr Disrespect dropped from his game studio following Twitch allegations
Dr Disrespect in a video about Deadrop released by Midnight Society.

Game developer Midnight Society cut its ties with Guy Beahm, a popular video game content creator who goes by the name Dr Disrespect, following allegations surrounding a 2020 Twitch ban.

In 2020, streaming platform Twitch banned Dr Disrespect shortly after announcing a lucrative new deal with him but didn't comment on why. While Dr Disrespect continued to stream on YouTube over the past four years, on June 21, former Twitch employee Cody Conners claimed on X (formerly Twitter) that Twitch banned Dr Disrespect because he "got caught sexting a minor in the then existing Twitch whispers product." Beahm responded, "I didn’t do anything wrong, all this has been probed and settled, nothing illegal, no wrongdoing was found, and I was paid."
