Scram Kitty and his Buddy on Rails studio Dakko Dakko was brought on board to make this a reality, implementing several GamePad-specific features to make the experience of playing Year Walk less frustrating than it was on mobile devices. While the iOS version of the game features a completely separate companion app that included information on the game’s lore and hints to complete its puzzles, this information will now always be shown on the GamePad screen, and motion controls have been added to use in “almost every puzzle.”

“If you have played Year Walk, you know how useful this will be,” Flesser says.” He’s not wrong: although the game can be completed in around an hour, its puzzles are beyond cryptic, and I’m not ashamed to admit that I had to look up walkthrough videos online to complete it. The dark, atmospheric journey through the woods of Sweden confused me, as I had no knowledge of Swedish folklore before playing it, but I had to reach the end.
There’s no firm release date set for Year Walk on Wii U, but Simogo is planning for a “late summer or early fall” launch. If you can’t wait that long, a PC version was also released last year.
