Nintendo officially announced Yoshi’s Wooly World, previously known as Yarn Yoshi, an exploration game starring Nintendo’s beloved dinosaur character. The title is set to be the spiritual successor to Kirby’s Epic Yarn, which was released in 2010.
While Mario-centric titles usually include a level timer, which limits the ability for gamers to explore levels, Yoshi’s Wooly World won’t include one. Nintendo hopes this will encourage gamers to take in the world, which is populated by unique elements made possible by the yarn-themed design. The game will feature a platform design in the same style as Yoshi’s Island, but with new ways to interact with it. The fabric-crafted enemies unwind as you defeat them, or turn into balls of yarn that follow Yoshi around if digested.
Nintendo says that Yoshi’s Wooly World will have co-op gameplay, allowing two players to get in on the action. One will take control of the standard green Yoshi, while the other will take over a red-yarn Yoshi. Players will be able to use the yarn elements when interacting with one another. For instance, you’ll be able to turn a teammate into a ball, and fire them to previously unreachable parts of the map.
Yoshi’s Wooly World is scheduled for release in 2015.
