Aperion Audio Intimus 422 Speaker Series

From the press release:

Taking its lead from Aperion’s award-winning bookshelf speakers, the 422 speaker series includes the same high-quality construction, attention to detail and commitment to its customers through the Company’s Totally Risk-Free In-Home Audition(TM). The 422 speaker series is designed for the customer who seeks a full home theater surround sound experience without the bulk of an intrusive speaker system.

“Customers have been asking for a home theater system that doesn’t require them to build the room around their speakers,” said Win Jeanfreau, founder and CEO of Aperion Audio. “Our new 422 speaker series packs a powerful sound in a beautiful small package. We like to think of them as the ‘Altoid’ of home theater speakers.”

The 422 speaker series includes four satellite speakers, a center channel and an 8″ Powered Subwoofer. The satellite speakers include a 1″ tweeter, a 4″ mid-range woofer and weigh 6 pounds each, measuring 7 1/2″ H X 5″ W X 6″ D. The center channel speaker includes a 1″ tweeter, dual 4″ mid-range woofers and weighs 7 pounds, measuring 5″ H X 12″ W X 6″ D. The Intimus S-8 Powered Subwoofer includes an 8″ woofer, 100-watt amplifier and weighs 37 pounds, measuring 14 1/2″ H X 10 1/2″ W X 15″ D.

Features of the 422 Speaker Series

1″ Audiophile-Grade Silk-Dome Tweeter

All Intimus tweeters are built with a silk diaphragm, giving remarkable detail that plays smooth and natural. The audiophile-grade 1-inch tweeter features Ferro fluid cooling for high-power handling, smooth response and an enhanced heat sink, resulting in less distortion.

4″ Custom Poly Midrange

The 4″ mineral-filled, polypropylene midrange delivers exacting sound by responding to transient demands and maintaining dispersion. It is equipped with a well-damped suspension system that controls spurious resonances and effortlessly handles the substantial air-moving demands of lower midrange frequencies.

Anti-Resonant Cabinet

Each 422 speaker is made of 3/4″ thick high-density fiberboard (HDF) to eliminate unwanted resonances and is finished in real cherry wood or high-gloss black lacquer. This first-rate cabinetry unites the acoustic-damping qualities of only the most expensive loudspeakers with a true furniture-grade finish.

Magnetically Shielded

All drivers in the 422 speaker series are magnetically shielded to protect video monitors from magnetic interferences, allowing placement on or near viewing devices.

5-Way Gold-Plated Binding Posts

Each 422 speaker comes standard with audiophile quality gold-plated five-way binding posts, and accepts banana plugs (4mm), spades (3/8″), pins or bare wire to provide pure signal transfer and ultimate connection flexibility.

Acoustically Transparent Grille

An acoustically transparent grille is included with each speaker to protect the drivers from inquisitive kids and pets. The grille cloth is sonically invisible so speaker performance won’t be compromised.

Wall, Ceiling, Stand & Shelf Mounting

All 422 speakers come with dual 1/4″ threaded inserts on the back for invisible ceiling or wall mounting and a single threaded insert on the bottom for securing to a stand or shelf. By following industry standard spacing, these inserts work seamlessly with mounts from OmniMount, B-Tech, or other popular brands and eliminate the need to drill holes.

Features of the S-8 Powered Subwoofer

Custom Poly 8″ Subwoofer

The ultra-fast custom 8″ polypropylene woofer was designed for superior high-excursion performance. It features an anti-resonant stamped-steel frame, heavy-duty butyl rubber surround, and is magnetically shielded. By all appearances the subwoofer is sleek and unassuming but delivers powerfully smooth and natural tight bass.

100-Watt High-Power Amplifier

Aperion’s S-8 subwoofer effortlessly fills a room with expansive depth and power with 100 watts of continuous power. The amplifier comes standard with line level inputs/outputs, low pass crossover adjustment, phase switch, voltage switch and a detachable power cord.

Anti-Resonant Cabinet

Each S-8 subwoofer is made of solid 1″ thick high density fiberboard (HDF) to eliminate unwanted resonances and is finished in real cherry wood or high-gloss black lacquer. This cabinetry unites the acoustic-damping qualities of first-rate loudspeakers with a true furniture-grade finish.

Pricing and Availability

The 422 speaker series will be available for shipping in January of 2005 priced at $799. Pre-orders can be made now by calling Aperion toll free at 866-APERION (866-273-7466).

CES 2023: Dirac Live Active Room Treatment is ANC for your speakers
A Dirac Live Room Treatment-enabled speaker showing a soundwave graphic filling the room.

The massive convention halls of CES 2023 in Las Vegas are filled with blinding eye candy as far as you can see -- everything from the latest TVs and computer monitors to smart projectors and more. But the Swedish digital audio processing masters at Dirac want you to know that the annual tech show is also loaded with things that sound amazing. To that end, Dirac today announced its Dirac Live Active Room Treatment, which it says works like active noise cancellation technology by using your home theater system's own speakers to help clean up the sound in any room.

Anyone who's ever set up speakers or a subwoofer in a home entertainment space will tell you that everything from the size of the room to its walls, floor, ceiling, and the objects in it can affect the sound -- bass frequencies can cross and create an annoying boom, and sound can bounce all over the place, creating unwanted noise.
