When do the Prime Day soundbar deals start?

Amazon recently announced that Prime Day 2024 will officially run from July 16 to 17. That means we should see early sales start very soon in a buildup to the delights of Prime Day. Perhaps more excitingly, we’ll also see sales from other retailers like Best Buy and Walmart as both firms seek to take some attention away from Amazon. That means it should be a pretty competitive field for the next few weeks. To make sure you don’t miss out on the best soundbar deals, bookmark this page as we’ll be regularly updating it with the latest Prime Day soundbar deals.

Is Prime Day a good time to buy a soundbar?

Yes, Prime Day is a great time to buy a soundbar. The two-day sales event is often the best time to buy outside of Black Friday thanks to it being a huge sales period. As we mentioned, that’s for other retailers as well as Amazon so you can count on some big savings. Ideally, you should hold out for another month to see what discounts emerge. We’ve featured the best soundbar deals above but it’s wise to wait a bit longer. Generally, a soundbar isn’t an essential purchase so you should be able to deal with sound from your TV speakers for a few more weeks.

How to choose a soundbar on Prime Day 2024

The best speakers are great to own but they can be pretty bulky and complicated to get right. That’s why so many people recommend one of the best soundbars instead. Such devices are designed as a quick plug-and-play solution for your TV as you just hook it up and it does all the hard work for you. Each soundbar is designed to be placed under your TV so it won’t take up too much room.

When buying a soundbar on Prime Day, it’s a smart idea to read up on our ultimate surround sound guide so you know what you’re getting into. As with any purchase, you should think about your budget. It’s possible to buy a soundbar for $100 but you can also spend over $1,000. Only you know how much you want to spend and how important it is for you.

Alongside the budget, think about the technology you want. Dolby Atmos is key here with the best Dolby Atmos soundbars sounding fantastic but costing a fair bit. If you’re an avid movie watcher or play a lot of games, Dolby Atmos will revolutionize your experience and make you feel truly immersed in your time viewing or playing.

Additionally, don’t forget about connectivity options. Check your TV and soundbar are compatible. Look for ports and if the soundbar is wireless (and can be hooked up to your TV). App support is also available in some instances and you may wish to pay attention to being able to use Spotify or other streaming services through your soundbar. Ideally, a unit that does seemingly everything is the sweet spot. Again, only if you can afford it. It can save you from needing separate Bluetooth speakers at least.

Finally, think about the aesthetics. Measure up under your TV to check the soundbar will fit without sticking out or looking ugly. Alternatively, if you’re wall-mounting, check you’ve got room. It’s important to make sure that everything looks as good as it sounds.

The Beats Pill is back, baby!
A pair of Beats Pill speakers.

In what's been one of the worst-kept secrets of the year -- mostly because subtly putting a product into the hands of some of the biggest stars on the planet is no way to keep a secret -- the Beats Pill has returned. Just a couple of years after Apple and Beats unceremoniously killed off the stylish Bluetooth speaker, a new one has arrived.

Available for preorder today in either black, red, or gold, the $150 speaker (and speakerphone, for that matter) rounds out a 2024 release cycle for beats that includes the Solo Buds and Solo 4 headphones, and comes nearly a year after the Beats Studio Pro.

Ifi’s latest DAC is the first to add lossless Bluetooth audio
Ifi Audio Zen Blue 3 DAC (front).

Ifi Audio's new Zen Blue 3 wireless digital-to-analog converter (DAC) will officially be available to buy for $299 on July 9. When it is, it will be the first device of its kind to support a wide variety of Bluetooth codecs, including Qualcomm's aptX Lossless, the only codec that claims to deliver bit-perfect CD quality audio over a Bluetooth connection.

Admittedly, there are very few devices on the market that can receive aptX Lossless (and fewer that can transmit it), so it's a good thing that the Zen Blue 3 also works with the more widely supported aptX Adaptive, LDAC, and LDHC/HWA codecs (all of which are hi-res audio-capable), plus the three most common codecs: AAC, SBC, and aptX.

The new Beats Pill might replace Sonos on my back porch
The 2024 Beats Pill and an aging Sonos Play:1.

If I were to build an outdoor stereo in 2024, I'd do it with a pair of portable Beats Pills instead of Sonos speakers. Phil Nickinson / Digital Trends

In 2017, after more than a decade in our home, my wife and I added a pool. With it came a covered deck, making what basically was a new outdoor room. Not uncommon at all in Florida, but new to us.
