Netflix announces Daredevil’s Season 2 premiere date with new trailer

So it turns out that Daredevil won’t be challenging Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice after all.

Netflix and Marvel TV have released a new teaser for the second season of the critically praised superhero series Daredevil, and the preview includes the official announcement of the season’s premiere date. Instead of debuting on the same weekend that Batman V. Superman hits theaters, the series will kick off its second season a week earlier on March 18.

Earlier this week, a widely circulated rumor suggested that Daredevil would return to Netflix on March 25, pitting Marvel’s massively popular series against DC Comics’ grim-and gritty vision of their superhero universe. Given that DC and Warner Bros. Pictures had already backed out of an earlier premiere-date conflict with Captain America: Civil War, the possibility of another premiere weekend battle seemed like clever maneuvering by Marvel, as it would would likely impact both the ticket sales and level of buzz surrounding Batman V. Superman that weekend.

Still, with the new, 13-episode season of Daredevil premiering a week before Batman V. Superman, if the second season of the series is received as well as the first, the conversation surrounding the Man Without Fear will almost certainly extend well into the March 25 weekend and beyond.

Here’s the official synopsis for the second season of Daredevil, via Netflix:

Just when Matt thinks he is bringing order back to the city, new forces are rising in Hell’s Kitchen. Now the Man Without Fear must take on a new adversary in Frank Castle and face an old flame – Elektra Natchios.

Bigger problems emerge when Frank Castle, a man looking for vengeance, is reborn as The Punisher, a man who takes justice into his own hands in Matt’s neighborhood. Meanwhile, Matt must balance his duty to his community as a lawyer and his dangerous life as the Devil of Hell’s Kitchen, facing a life-altering choice that forces him to truly understand what it means to be a hero.

Featuring the return of Charlie Cox as blind attorney Matt Murdock who fights crime at night as the masked vigilante Daredevil, the series will also bring back first-season cast members Deborah Ann Woll as Karen Page, Elden Henson as Foggy Nelson, Scott Glenn as Stick, and Rosario Dawson as Claire Temple. Making their debut in the second season will be The Walking Dead actor Jon Bernthal as Frank “The Punisher” Castle, and Elodie Yung as assassin Elektra Natchios.

All 13 episodes of the second season of Daredevil will premiere March 18 on Netflix.

The Joker standing on a street corner in "The Dark Knight."

Superhero movies often excel at making a grand entrance, hooking the audience within the first few minutes. They do so with some spectacular action scenes or just some thrilling or emotional moments that get viewers interested in seeing what's in store for them.

From the first Guardians of the Galaxy's giddy dance number to the brutal assassination of The Comedian in Watchmen, here's a list of the 10 best opening scenes in superhero movies.
10. Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016)
Batman v Superman Dawn of Justice - Opening Scene (2016)
Zack Snyder's crossover epic begins with Bruce Wayne recounting a dream he had about the death of his parents. This sequence juxtaposes Thomas and Martha's murders with Bruce's fall into a bat-filled cave, symbolizing his descent into grief following this tragedy. Each frame of this beautiful scene looks like a panel from an actual comic book, and the somber song that plays in this scene captures the loss of Bruce's innocence at the hands of a random criminal.
And with the swarm of bats carrying him into the light, audiences see his rise out of that darkness as Batman. But this proves to be a brief glimmer of hope, as the film later shows how far the Dark Knight has fallen after facing so much tragedy and heartbreak in the pursuit of this "beautiful lie."
