Free Sonos Software Update Streams 750+ Radio Stations

A new free update to the Sonos system will introduce the iheartradio service, new alarm settings, and more languages. The update will allow users to tune in to over 750 radio stations in all genres, from rock, to rap, to talk radio.

The Sonos system that we recently reviewed and gave a 9.5 out of 10 to, seamlessly allows you to access music on your iPhone, iPod Touch, and now iPad from anywhere in your house and stream it to the Sonos stereo.

In a release sent today, the new software will also allow crossfading, as well as a new feature that will allow you to use two separate S5 stereos as one, with one acting as the left channel and the other as the right.

The software is now available for Mac and PC.

Sonos releases microphone-free Arc SL Shadow Edition soundbar for $750

Sonos is now selling a version of its Dolby Atmos-equipped Arc soundbar called the Arc SL Shadow Edition. Recently spotted by a savvy Reddit user at their local Costco, it's $50 cheaper than the regular $800 Arc, and it ships without the built-in microphones that give the Arc its smart speaker capabilities.

After reaching out to Sonos, we now know that the Arc SL is a Costco exclusive that's available in-store now, and soon on Costco.com.
Customers can purchase Sonos Arc SL Shadow Edition, exclusively available at participating Costco stores in the U.S. and Canada. Sonos Arc SL Shadow Edition brings the immersive sound customer’s love from Arc in a shadow black color and without built-in microphones.
The SL designation was previously given to the Sonos One SL, a version of the company's Sonos One smart speaker that, just like the Arc SL, ships without microphones. We think the Sonos Arc is the best soundbar you can buy right now, but Sonos' research clearly indicated that there are some folks who will avoid the Arc over privacy fears. The Arc SL deals with these concerns while also saving buyers a few bucks.

Sonos Radio HD offers ad-free, CD-quality streaming for $8 per month

Sonos has launched Sonos Radio HD, a premium tier of its Sonos Radio service that eliminates all advertisements and boosts audio quality significantly, for $8 per month. The service is available in the U.S. and U.K., with other countries being added in the future.

Sonos claims that its free tier of Sonos Radio is already the fourth-most-popular music source for users of its whole-home wireless speakers. After listening to user feedback, the company decided to add the premium HD tier, which addresses several desired changes:
