Peripheral and accessory maker Gefen has taken the wraps off its HD Mate Scaler, a new video switching system which enables users to combine three different standard and high-definition video sources and output them all to any DVI display. We know it looks like a Mac mini, but it’s more than just a video-savvy KVM switch, though, the HD Mate Scaler also handles audio and, perhaps most significantly, handles digital video scaling all the way from 480i to 1080p.
The HD MAte Scaler sports one DVI and two component video inputs, plus TOSlink and stereo RCA audio inputs. All output is through a single DVI connector, with audio available in either digital or analog formats, depending on the source. Gefen says the units works with all DVI video sources and displays (that would kind of be the point of standards, yes?). User can control source switching using the HD Mate Scaler’s IR remote.
The Gefen HD Mate Scaler carries a suggested retail price of $349, and is available for pre-order now.
