Disney+ may be the only streaming platform your whole family needs. Since its inception in 2019, this content mecca has been one of the only places to watch Disney’s extensive list of movies and shows. But you can also watch Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, Nat Geo, and 21st Century Fox titles too, and it's still offered at a couple of different price tiers that won't leave you broke.

But can you watch Disney+ in a different language? You sure can, Fortunately, it’s very easy to change the language of the Disney+ movie or show you’re watching, and we put together this step-by-step guide to walk you through the process.

What languages are available for Disney+?

Disney+ offers various language options for audio and subtitles, but availability can vary depending on your region and the specific title. Some titles have multiple versions to accommodate regional, linguistic, or creative differences. Currently, the Disney+ app and web browser support the following languages and dialects:

  • Dutch
  • English (U.K. and U.S.)

  • French (Canada and France)

You should change the app language if you’re looking for a specific language and can’t find it through the audio and subtitle settings.

How to change the Disney+ language in the profile settings

You can change the Disney+ app language in your profile settings Here's how:

Step 1: Open the Disney+ app on your device, then select Choose your profile.

Step 2: Select on your profile icon. On mobile, this is located at the bottom right of the screen. Select tap Edit Profile.

Step 3: Scroll down and select App Language. Choose your new language.

Step 4: Please remember that switching the app language doesn’t guarantee access to different audio or subtitle options. The languages available will still depend on the specific content you’re watching and your geographical location.

How to change the language on Disney+ when watching a movie or show

You can also change the language while watching a specific TV show or film as noted on the Disney+ website.

Step 1: Log in to Disney+ with your email and password and start watching a movie or television show. If you’ve forgotten your password, it must be reset through the Disney+ website.

Step 2: Once your movie or show starts streaming, a box icon will appear on the upper-right side of the screen and the player UI. Click it.

Step 3: You will see the language selection menu. Use that to choose your desired language and subtitle options.

How to change the Disney+ language on Apple TV, Roku, Google TV, and Fire TV.

It is possible to change the language on Disney+ across all devices. Although the steps are similar, there are some differences depending on the device used.

On Apple TV, to access the playback controls while watching a video, select the Play/Pause button. Then, swipe up to find the audio settings.

On Roku, start watching any title on Disney+. Next, press the Star button ()* on the Roku remote to open the Audio menu, where you can select your desired language from the left-hand menu.

To change your language settings on Google TV, open the Disney+ app and navigate to your profile. Select Edit Profiles and choose your preferred language from the App Language drop-down menu in your profile settings. Additionally, during playback, you can adjust the audio and subtitle languages by accessing the Settings menu.

For Fire TV, open the Disney+ app and go to your profile. Select Edit Profiles, choose the profile you want to modify, and then select your desired language from the App Language dropdown menu. This will change the language of the Disney+ interface on your Fire TV.

Standalone ESPN to launch by fall 2025, with Disney Bundle available

While we're still a long way away from being able to subscribe to ESPN all on its own, it appears that work is very much continuing behind the scenes. Disney CEO Bob Iger, at the company's annual shareholders meeting, gave a brief mention to the previously-announced standalone sports offering.

While no major details were dropped, Iger initially said that "the full suite of ESPN channels" would be available as their own streaming subscription "in the fall of 2025." While the year had previously been announced, the season had not. But it makes a lot of sense, given the importance of college football and the NFL to ESPN.

You can now watch Hulu inside the Disney+ app

After a limited beta launch in late 2023, Hulu content is now officially available via the Disney+ app for those who subscribe to both services via the Disney Bundle, according to Disney. To mark the occasion, the Disney+ app icon has been given a new Hulu-esque greenish hue that the company calls "Aurora," which replaces the previous blue background.

With the launch, bundle subscribers now have access to Hulu content throughout the Disney+ app, including discovery areas like Continue Watching and recommendations.
