It might not be the latest and greatest technology for, say, living room entertainment, but there are plenty of people looking to fill out a rec room, study, or children’s bedroom with a DVD player. And then they realize they have an iPod dock hooked up to let folks access iPod-based video, images, and music. And then you’re awash in little flimsy plastic devices, remotes, and cables.
iLuv has launched its i1255 iPod/DVD player combo. The basic idea is to combine frequently-used devices into on easy-to-use package, rather than push the envelope for high-def entertainment. The unit includes a standard DVD player (doesn’t even do upscaling) with an iPod dock that enables users to watch their iPod-based video on the connected TV. The unit offers a combined remote for controlling both iPod and DVD player functions, component and X-Video output, and support for 5.1 audio (and a coax digital audio output). Technologically, the i1255 is yesterday’s news, but as a combination it might easily save some users clutter and hassle.
The iLuv i1255 carries a suggested price of $149.99, and should be available now.
