Jabra adds ANC to its Elite 75t, Elite Active 75t earbuds for free

In what is surely one of the rarest occurrences in tech, Jabra announced a massive free upgrade to its existing Elite 75t and Elite Active 75t true wireless earbuds: Both models will receive active noise cancellation (ANC) via a firmware update starting in mid-October for free.

The news follows on the heels of Jabra’s debut of its Elite 85t, the first true wireless earbuds the company has released with ANC baked in as a standard feature. Between the Elite 85t and today’s surprise announcement that 75t models will also receive ANC, Jabra’s ANC earbud lineup has gone from zero to three overnight.

The update will be delivered via the Jabra Sound+ app to all owners of Jabra Elite 75t and Elite Active 75t earbuds in mid-October — the same timeframe in which Jabra will add the feature to all new purchases of these models. It will enable Jabra’s standard ANC solution, which applies to music and media playback.

The key to the upgrade — and why we probably won’t see other companies offering the same upgrade to their non-ANC true wireless earbuds — is the hardware and software that these two models already have onboard, specifically their Qualcomm chips and digital audio processor.

The Elite 75t and Elite Active 75t use their external microphones to offer Jabra’s HearThrough mode, which pipes external sounds into your ears when you need it. These same mics will be used for ANC, too.

Turning ANC on will have an impact on battery life, but curiously, the Elite 75t models will end up with the same or better battery performance as the new Elite 85t: 5.5 hours on a single charge (24 hours in total with charging case) when ANC is on, and the normal 7.5 hours and 28 hours in total with ANC off.

Digital Trends considers both Elite 75t models to be two of the best true wireless earbuds you can buy, and with the addition of ANC, they may also join our list of the best noise-canceling earbuds. But we’re not going to assume anything: As soon as we get a chance to try it out on both models, we’ll update our reviews.

Jabra today launched the latest member of its flagship Elite line of true wireless earbuds, the step-up Elite 4. Picking up where the popular Jabra Elite 3 left off, the $100 earbuds aren't a huge departure, but add some key new features, such as active noise cancellation (ANC), Bluetooth multipoint connectivity, and Swift Pair linking with Windows PCs.

Jabra's Elite line of true wireless earbuds are top performers for the brand (and some of the best earbuds around, period), with several models of them landing on our top earbud lists over the years, including the stellar Elite 7 Pro and the Elite 85t. Sitting at the more affordable end of Jabra's lineup, 2021's Elite 3s were a great-sounding pair of super-comfortable earbuds with easy-to-use physical controls on each bud, and a wide range of customizable features through the Jabra Sound+ app.

HP and Poly challenge Jabra at CES 2023 with Voyager Free 60 hybrid earbuds

Recently acquired by HP in 2022, Poly has come to CES 2023 with its first wireless earbuds, the Voyager Free 60 and Voyager Free 60+, which go head-to-head with Jabra's Evolve 2 Buds. Both products are aimed at folks who want earbuds they can use for work and play and feature a dedicated USB Bluetooth adapter that can be used to integrate the earbuds with popular messaging and conferencing apps like Teams or Zoom.

The Poly Voyager Free 60 earbuds are expected to be available in March, starting at $299, while the Poly Voyager Free 60+ will be $350.

Bose shrinks the size and ups the performance of its noise-canceling earbuds

Bose has revealed the newest version of its flagship noise-canceling wireless earbuds, the QuietComfort Earbuds II. They're significantly smaller than their predecessors and feature a new algorithm that constantly adjusts to your individual hearing profile, as well as your surroundings. Bose says they provide the best ANC performance of any headphone, whether in earbud or headset formats.

The QuietComfort Earbuds II are a bit more expensive than the first version -- $299 versus $279 -- and almost $50 more than Apple's second-gen AirPods Pro wireless earbuds, which were announced on the same day and offer very similar features. You can pre-order the QuietComfort Earbuds II starting September 7 on Bose.com in Triple Black. They will begin shipping on September 15 and a Soapstone color is expected to be available later in 2022.
