Klipsch shows off new mighty-mouse portable speaker, the Groove

Bigger isn’t always better — especially when you’re looking to take your music on the go. As such, Klipsch has unveiled a new “ultra portable” Bluetooth speaker, the Klipsch Groove, designed for a  small but mighty punch of sound ready to follow you anywhere.

At just 4-inches high by 2-inches deep, the Klipsch Groove can be transported easily, whether that be around the house or on the road. Offering the latest Bluetooth wireless playback, the speaker remembers up to eight devices — from your phone to your tablet to your computer, thereby making it easier to reconnect later. In addition to Bluetooth, the Groove also offers a hardwired 3.5mm connection.

Klipsch claims the speaker was designed with power in mind, as well as accurate sound reproduction. “The Klipsch Groove is a solution for people that want quality audio on the go as technology advances and content is consumed in different formats,” said Steve Jain, Klipsch Vice President and General Manager of Digital, Streaming, and Portable Audio Solutions, in a press release.

To achieve “amazingly detailed output” and “deep, realistic bass,” the Klipsch Groove features a 3-inch, full-range high excursion driver and two 2-inch side-firing passive bass radiators, along with advanced DSP equalization. It also helps that the speaker has 10 watts of digital amplification — not a bad punch of power for its munchkin size.

The speaker is also water-resistant, and has a rechargeable battery that lasts up to eight hours. Currently, the Klipsch Groove is available in black finish on the company’s website for $150, and it’s also for sale through other retailers.

The Klipsch Groove is just the first in what the company calls “an excitingly large line up of wireless speakers” on the way. Klipsch promises more are set to come in 2016.

Anker Soundcore has two new portable and rugged Bluetooth speakers that fall under the Motion family of products: the $80 Motion 300 and the $60 Motion 100. The metal-clad speakers come in three color choices and feature support for hi-res audio. They will be available later this fall -- you can buy the Motion 300 on October 9 (black only), with the other two colors coming in November/December. The black version of the Motion 100 will be available in November, with its two other colors coming in early 2024, according to Anker.

Sonos has unveiled the latest version of its Move portable smart speaker -- the Move 2. It looks nearly identical to the original Sonos Move, yet contains several updates that bring it in line with the company's recently released Era 100 and Era 300 speakers. The Move 2 has been priced at $449, a $50 increase over the previous model, and will be available starting September 20, 2023, in a wide selection of countries. The Move 2 replaces the first-gen speaker, though Sonos will continue to sell the original Move while inventory remains, so you may want to keep an eye open for some deep discounts.

At a distance, you can't tell the Move and Move 2 apart, well, unless the Move 2 shows up in its new color option -- olive. The Move 2 is a hair bigger, but it still weighs the same 6.61 pounds. Sonos has kept the same rubberized no-slip base as well as the integrated carry handle on the back. As with the original, the Move 2 is built for the outdoors with an IP56 rating for dust and water resistance.
