Finally, a Bluetooth speaker you’ll want to rest your beer on

Marshall may be best known for rocking stages and concert halls with its wide array of professional amplifiers. But the company’s consumer division, Marshall Headphones, is quietly trying to creep into your living room as well, unveiling today another addition to its growing lineup, the Marshall Stanmore. Layered in vinyl and dripping with gold accents, the Stanmore also boasts 21st century upgrades like Bluetooth capability, blending modern technology with the style of an amp plucked straight from a 70’s recording studio.

The Stanmore is stocked with dual ¾-inch dome tweeters and a 5 ¼-inch woofer, powered by a Class D amplifier that pumps out a total of 80 watts of force. Inputs include Bluetooth 4.0 with aptX, an optical input to connect to your TV or set-top box, an RCA stereo input, and a 3.5mm input, complete with a gold-capped coiled cable that’s straight out of a Zeppelin video. The total frequency response for the little cab is estimated at 45Hz-22kHZ, and it’s available in either classic black or cream.

We were pretty much in love with the sound and style of the last consumer speaker from Marshall Headphones, the Hanwell, but we were disappointed with the omission of any digital or wireless connection, which are pretty much prerequisites in today’s competitive marketplace. Now that Marshall has moved its vintage aesthetic into the wireless arena with the Stanmore, we’re excited to check this baby out for ourselves.

The Marshall Stanmore is priced at $400, and is available today.

Klipsch takes on Marshall with three new portable and rugged Bluetooth speakers

Klipsch has added three new Bluetooth speakers to its lineup, and each has been named after an American city with deep roots in music-making. The Klipsch Music City Series includes the Austin, the Nashville, and the Detroit. All three speakers have been ruggedized and carry an IP67 rating, effectively making them dustproof and waterproof. You can wirelessly sync them with other Klipsch speakers, and thanks to built-in mics, they can double as speakerphones. The $99 Austin and $149 Nashville will be available in the coming weeks, while the $299 Detroit will arrive in 2024.
