What’s new on HBO and Max in June 2024

Matt Smith in House of the Dragon.
HBO

Long before Max came along, Game of Thrones was one of the biggest hits in the history of HBO. The prequel series, House of the Dragon, hasn’t quite reached those same heights. But after a two-year hiatus, it’s good to have the dragons around again even if the second season will only have eight episodes instead of 10.

Most of the highlights this month come from HBO’s original programming, including the new series Fantasmas, a documentary called Ren Faire, and a presentation of Jeremy O. Harris’ Slave Play. As for the newly added movies in June, it’s hard to get very excited about flicks like Big Mommas: Like Father, Like Son and Cats & Dogs: The Revenge of Kitty Galore. There are some film highlights, including the 2013 remake of Evil Dead and Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. But for the most part, this month’s movie lineup is very disappointing.

Our complete list of what’s coming to HBO and Max in June 2024 is below. Titles without “HBO” in the listing will only be available on Max. DT’s film and TV show recommendations are in bold.

We also have lists of the best movies on HBO and HBO Max and the best shows on HBO and HBO Max to help you decide what to watch next. If HBO isn’t your only go-to streaming service, we have helpful articles on the best movies on Netflix and the best shows on Netflix, as well as the best movies streaming on Amazon and the best shows streaming on Amazon, plus plenty of other guides for Hulu, Peacock, and Disney+.

Everything coming to PBS in June 2024
Two vicars and a man stand in Grantchester.

When it comes to new programming on PBS, June is going to get off to a slow start. But by the middle of the month, three British dramas -- D.I. Ray, Grantchester, and Professor T -- will all be back with new seasons. And if you're looking for some light-hearted competition to watch, the third season of The Great American Recipe is also arriving just in time for summer.

PBS' mandate is programming that serves the public interest. This month, PBS is doing that with a Frontline investigation into the ongoing campus protests about the war in Gaza, as well nature specials, documentaries, and a Great Performances' presentation of Carmen. And it's all free to watch, thanks to viewers like you.

What’s new on Peacock in June 2024
Keanu Reeves in John Wick Chapter 2.

If you're coming to Peacock in June looking for big movies premiering for the first time or new original series, then you may be disappointed. It's going to be a quiet month on that front for Peacock, perhaps because a good deal of June will be focusing on the U.S. Olympic trials ahead of the Olympic Games later this summer.

On the bright side, Peacock's incoming lineup of movies is very solid, including the first three John Wick films, The Bourne Identity, Gladiator, and more. There are also some head-scratching arrivals including several Christmas films that are about five months premature. Of those flicks, Anna and the Apocalypse's delightful blend of zombies, musicals, and Christmas cheer is a particular favorite of ours.

Everything leaving Hulu in June 2024
Robert Pattinson in The Batman.

By now, Hulu subscribers are used to the idea of movies coming and going at seemingly random intervals. We've lost track of how many times the Die Hard films have departed and returned (they'll all be gone from Hulu again at the end of June). It's more intriguing to see movies that you wouldn't expect on Hulu, like The Batman and Joker, both of which are making brief appearances this month.

While Max has seemingly abandoned the idea of letting subscribers know which films are departing at the end of any given month, Hulu is very upfront about it. That gives you, and all of the other the Hulu subscribers, ample opportunities to catch your favorite movies before they leave. The only thing that you have to do is make time to watch them. If you go through our list of everything leaving Hulu in June 2024, then getting a viewing plan together should be the easy part. Our favorite picks for the month are in bold.
