This fall, the bevy of Bluetooth enabled speakers has begun to blend together. To avoid getting lumped into the pile, it behooves manufacturers to offer something — anything — that’s different. NuForce’s S3-BT wireless speaker set — despite its semi-ho-hum aesthetic — does distinguish itself under the hood. The speaker is aptX and AAC enabled, both of which offer a step-up in sound when compared to standard Bluetooth audio. Today’s top-of-the-line mobile devices typically support the two technologies, with AAC available on iOS, and aptX popular on many Android devices.
The NuForce S3-BT is comprised of two separate speakers, each of which comes outfitted with a 1-inch soft dome tweeter, and a 3.5-inch paper cone woofer. NuForce rates the power of the built in amplifiers at 18 watts x 2 (1W @1 kHz, < .5% THD). The speakers both weigh 5.51 lbs and stand 7 x 4.5 x 7.5 (H x W x D- in inches).
The cutting-edginess of this product’s tech specs, however, doesn’t appear to extend to its exterior. Still, though the design is far from risque, there’s certainly something to be said for a classic, adaptable aesthetic. Nuforce’s new model will be available on October 31 for around $300, and comes packaged with a 3.5mm Stereo to RCA Cable, interconnect speaker cable, and AC Power Adapter.
