Polk Audio has been busy announcing new products lately, and it continues that trend with its latest announcement of the Woodbourne, the company’s first-ever table-top streaming speaker.
The Woodbourne has a casual-but-classy alabaster exterior, and is topped off with a mahogany wood veneer that would be right at home aside Ron Burgundy’s leather-bound books. The look was inspired by mid-twentieth century furniture and could be described as retro-but-flexible.
Getting down to the nitty-gritty: The speaker supports both Bluetooth (including the apt-X codec) and AirPlay, and can also operate on a wired connection. Under the hood, we find a built-in 180-Watt RMS amplifier, two 5 ¼-inch mid-woofers and two one-inch silk dome tweeters. Those are some pretty hefty drivers for a table-top and should be capable of cranking out some serious bass.
At 24 inches wide, 7 inches high, and 6 7/8 inches deep, it’s larger than your average table top, and at 17 pounds 8 ounces, it won’t exactly be a breeze to move around. Still, it looks like we’re getting more power here than you’d find with a typical table-top too, so we’re on board with the additional poundage.
Available in Q2 of 2013 for $600, this looks to be a serious, high-end offering. If it proves to be anything less, keep your money in your pocket.
