Samsung offers free 4K movies to owners of its HU9000 4K/UHD TVs

Samsung announced today that, through June 30, it will be offering a complimentary “Ultra-HD Video Pack” to those customers who purchase the South Korean company’s “flagship” series HU9000 curved Ultra-HD TVs. The bundle, which comes pre-loaded on a Samsung hard drive, includes five feature-length films and three documentaries:

  • Night at the Museum
  • X-Men Origins: Wolverine
  • The Counselor
  • GI Joe: Retaliation
  • World War Z
  • The Last Reef
  • Grand Canyon Adventure
  • Cappadocia

The move comes as Samsung looks to bolster availability of 4K/UHD content, so named for its resolution rate that is four times that of 1080p HD. Sources for the eye-popping content are still meager in the marketplace, regardless of the fact that Samsung, LG, Sony, and others have been pushing their top-tier models at an increasing rate as of late. Today’s offering is a hopeful incentive for prospective 4K/UHD buyers and current owners, as Samsung waits for more methods for users to obtain content, such as Netflix’s plan to expand 4K content streaming online.

The HU9000 65-inch curved 4K/UHD TV will run buyers a cool $4,500. The TV comes loaded with a number of features, including UHD Upscaling, Precision Black Local Dimming, a bevy of Samsung’s proprietary image enhancement features, and HDMI 2.0, which allows for the industry’s highest resolution 4K streams.

The offer covers both the 55-inch and 65-inch models in the series. Owners may have to wait up to 12 weeks for their bundle, and can follow this link to register today.

Update: This article was ammended on 4/28/2014 to include the 55-inch model in the series.
