When space (or money) is at a premium, deciding between a large-screen computer monitor and a television can be an issue. Viewsonic reached out to cash-strapped college kids and other one-room dwellers on Monday with the release of its VT2340, a 24-inch computer monitor and television in one package.
The company reworked a fairly standard 1920 x 1080 resolution monitor by adding inputs and tuners, allowing it to deliver the same functionality as a full 1080p television, as well. The set has a ATSC/NTSC/QAM tuner for pulling down over-the-air HD signals, as well as an HDMI 1.3 input for connecting devices like Blu-ray and DVD players.
Viewsonic also claims the LCD panel used has been optimized for fast-motion video with a fast 5ms refresh rate, and that it delivers 250 nits of brightness and a 1,000:1 static contrast ratio.
The VT2430 is available immediately, with an MSRP of $400.
