Apple Slices Prices on DRM-Free Tunes

Apple Slices Prices on DRM-Free Tunes

Weeks after Amazon directly challenged the iTunes store with an online music library comprised completely of DRM-free music, Apple seems to be feeling the heat and has reduced prices on its own DRM-free offerings. On Tuesday, Apple cut  the prices on its iTunes Plus catalog to 99 cents per song, down from $1.29.

According to Apple, the iTunes store will continue to build its collection of unprotected tracks. “We’re adding over two million tracks from key independent labels in addition to EMI’s digital catalog and look forward to even more labels and artists making their music available on iTunes Plus,” said Eddy Cue, Apple’s vice president of iTunes, in a statement.

Apple claims the iTunes Plus catalog is now the largest DRM-free catalog in the world, at 2 million songs. Oddly enough, Amazon also claimed to have 2 million tracks at launch, meaning, at the very least, that the two are still neck and neck.

amazon shatters the prices on ring video doorbells and throws in a free show 5 doorbell pro with echo 03 1

Black Friday is coming fast, but Amazon sure isn't waiting to spring great deals, especially on its own brands' smart home devices. In late September, Amazon offered a short term deal on Ring's Video Doorbell 2 and Video Doorbell Pro, each bundled with an Echo Show 5 smart display. Well, those same deals are back with even lower prices. Amazon shattered the list prices of Ring's most popular Video Doorbell and tossed in a Show 5 at no extra cost. This deal with the Video Doorbell 2 got even better the day after we originally published this post.

We monitor smart home device prices year-round, but especially on the lead up to Black Friday and Cyber Monday. We check for awesome deals daily because Amazon likes to drop Black Friday-level deals to entice shoppers to check in regularly. Whether you're buying Christmas gifts, adding to your smart home, or want to add front door security, these two deals can help you save up to $160.
