Customize the look of your Christmas tree with Twinkly smart lights

It just takes the tap of a finger to change the look of your Christmas tree

Home automation and smart technology have made their way into your holiday decor. In the most recent innovation, retailers like Home Depot unveiled a slew of pre-lit Christmas trees. While pre-lit trees aren’t unusual, these trees feature Twinkly lights, which can be controlled using an app on your phone. Not only can you turn them on and off with a tap of the finger, you can also change the light’s colors and flashing patterns to keep your holiday decor looking unique and fresh.

The tree set-up is pretty easy. Once you get your tree up and your ornaments placed, you simply take a photo of the tree using the app and your phone. The Computer Vision feature will then detect the exact position of every single LED.  From there, the app will essentially make a map of your tree.

When that’s done (it only takes a few seconds), you can choose from a list of light animations, colors, and effects to customize the lighting your tree. For example, one effect is called Snowfall. With this setting, all of the lights are white and appear to be snowflakes drifting from the top of the tree to the bottom. You can also save your favorite custom settings so you can change up the look, then come back to your favorite later.

One of the biggest advantages of choosing a tree with smart lights is that you can change the entire look of your tree whenever you want. If you’re someone who wishes you could have your tree up year-round, you can remove your Christmas ornaments and change the lights to fit the upcoming holiday. For example, after Christmas you could change your lights to white and blue for New Year’s Eve.

Each tree has a 600-bulb light count of RGB LED bulbs, so it is fully lit from top to bottom and the tree takes around 10 minutes to set up. If you use more than one Twinkly tree or device in your home, you can connect them all using your home’s Wi-Fi and control them all at once using the single app. You can learn more about Twinkly smart lights on the company’s website.
