Pfister’s newest faucet turns on with a wave of your hand

Touch-activated faucets are a dime a dozen these days, so Pfister has decided to take things to the next level. Unlike some competitor faucets that require a tap from your hand or elbow, the company’s newest model doesn’t even require physical contact to turn on — you can just wave your hand in front of it all Obi-Wan-mind-trick-style and instantly be met with a glimmering stream of water.

Thanks to a quick-response motion sensor embedded in its base, The Selia Touch-Free Kitchen Faucet will turn on whenever it detects something in front of it. A dial under the sink gives you the ability to customize the preset temperature of the water that comes out, whereas users who don’t mind using manual controls can use the system’s traditional handle to adjust temperature and water flow.

To be fair, Pfister definitely isn’t the first company to implement this kind of presence-sensing tech into a faucet. Moen’s Motionsense technology allows you to turn on the faucet by waving your hand above the spout, and Kohler makes a faucet with a single quick-response sensor near the base — not to mention all the zillions of public restrooms that have motion-activation built into their sinks.

It’s certainly not new technology, but even so, Pfisters new Selia Touch-Free Kitchen Faucet does come with something the rest of the pack doesn’t: a fairly reasonable pricetag. Similar touchless faucets from Moen, Kohler, and Delta will cost you anywhere from 400 to 600 bucks, but Pfister is selling its product for just 300. That’s still rather expensive in comparison to a traditional faucet, but if you’re in the market for a touch-free setup, this is arguably one of the most affordable options yet.

The Selia Touch-Free Kitchen Faucet with REACT technology will be available for $300 starting in November at select Lowe’s retailers throughout the United States.
